  • Another card game made into an anime
However, this one is different. This is about a game which pre-exists the anime and involves Japanese high culture going back centuries. This is an anime about a high school team which plays competitive team karuta. Plotting, pacing and characterizations are far beyond what other game-based shows provide. Maybe some of this is that it's aimed for a slightly older market, but either way - this is a ...

  • Good plot, good art.
My first impression of the anime, just by looking at the art, was that it'd be one of those typical shoujo anime (not that I don't like those). I was totally wrong. I had ran out of anime to watch and decided to try this as a last resort. I'm SO glad I did. There are some anime that can get me so excited, I kind of, in my mind, jump around and shout in excitement from the greatness of the story ...

  • An amazing show, unlike any other
When i first started watching Chihayafuru, i didn't have high expectations, i figured i'd end up dropping after a few episodes.
    i was dead. wrong.
something about this show just drives you crazy, makes you want to watch more. I had no idea what Karuta was, but now i really wish i played.
This show has mastered mixing drama with comedy, while being a serious show about a serious sport/game, ...

  • Chihayafuru, a Coming of Age Anime and Ode to Japanese Literature and Sport
I'm about to make a very bold statement that Otakus far and wide may gasp at. Hold on to the seats of your pants people.

This is an anime to rival Naruto in terms of its "Coming of Age" theme. Both animes are extremely different in other aspects, Naruto taking a hell of a lot of cultural context from Japanese history and ingeniously weaving it into its background. References to samurai motifs ...

    It's Simply Beautiful
When you watch this anime, you can't help but feel as if you're in its world; being involved with the characters and feeling what the characters are feeling.

You can't help but feel inspired by the actions of the characters. I believe it takes a good art direction and writing to do that to the audience.

  • Stirring Emotion As Easily As Blossoms On the Breeze
I can't say that the premise for this show moved me, but the way the characters - particularly the main ones - certainly did! Sublime interaction, wonderful life in motion moments, and beautiful animation style lead you on a delightful journey into part of Japanese culture at it's best. A must see!

  • Up there with Kimi Ni Todoke
This anime sat in my Q for the longest time. It didn't catch fire for me until the third episode of the first season and then I was hooked. The characters are all very appealing, especially Chihaya, whose passion and desire to play Karuta and be with her friends is truly inspiring. Still, there's something sad about her that I can't quite put my finger on yet. She needs an outlet for her love, ...

  • Hikaru no Go in Shoujo form
For me this is reminiscent of Hikaru no Go. It makes you excited about something that you couldn't imagine being exciting.

The characters radiates warmth, their individual story lines catch us with unexpected empathy towards them. The story is about Karuta, but also about friendship, desire and dreams.

While some of the story isn't exactly unique to the girls Anime, but I feel this doesn't ...
