Deadman Wonderland is a manga with awesome characters coated with an intense, heart-grabbing,eye-catching, beautifully grotesque and brutal story. Basically, it is awesome. Not for the faint of heart since it is a pretty dark story, but if you think you can handle it. Go ahead. I pray the anime will follow the manga as close as they can. I am so excited. My goodness...I shall be waiting patiently.
But omg...the animators creating this made Samurai Champloo.
I will repeat that.
Samurai Champloo.
Anyone with good taste needs no explanation on this fact.

The end must justify the beginning….

Every story must have a beginning that justifies the end. Dead Man Wonderland, reminded me of that metaphor called, “The horse designed by a committee.”

However, please don’t get me wrong… the enime in itself is entertaining, thanks to the enigmatic characters, the fight scenes that somewhat, captures the survival instinct of a desperate man, and the blood lust that draws our animal instinctive curiosity as spectator.

I couldn’t help but wonder—the story started spectacularly… and then, *sigh* something happened… the synopsis was there; but the writer seemed to have changed… or replaced halfway. Just when you finally get the hang of the writer’s personal touches… all of the sudden it was changed… and substitute ghost writers takes over. *another deep sigh*

It has the all the potential to claim the rank of a legendary anime… if only, the committee did not intervene and dragged the gender down into shonnen category in order to capture a wider demographic; when it was originally meant for matured audience only.

I am hoping that somehow that an alternative story might come out and revive “Dead Man Wonderland.” Otherwise, it would be such a pity…

I have never watched an anime that's made me drop so many "WTF truck" bombs as I have had while watching Deadman Wonderland. Seriously.

The story opens up with Ganta Igarashi in a "Slice of life" feel genre, hanging out with his friends in class, talking about the summer vacation. It's cute, you start to wonder how the title fits with such a boring anime, then some freak in a red cape and a sinister smile hovers up to Ganta's class room and

F&%$#ing-kills-everybody.
(Except Ganta)

The lasting memory from that episode was watching his childhood friend's head rolling towards him. That's when I started spitting WTF while weaving tapestries of obscenities in shock factor and continued to watch the series. Ganta then gets framed for killing his entire class and is thrown into a prison. You have to watch this series because I'm not big on spoiling shows, I just like telling people to watch it. The anime may overall have the cliche competion-like storyline like most animes I've come across with similar scenarios, but the characters and the little twists in the plots that made me drop those "WTF truck" bombs, made this anime something to talk about for a long time.

Deadman Wonderland isn't for sissies or the feint of heart, but you better watch it anyway. You won't regret it.

As much as I wish Ganta (the main character) wasn't such a wuss. His personality is almost totally believable- and so are all the other characters. All of their personality traits and complexity really shines, and that's why I liked this anime. Everything was dynamic.

Every supporting character is so much more dynamic and realistic because they are mortal. You don't get that in other shows. You actually follow the torment, suffering, and development of the characters with the development of the storyline. Try doing that in 12 episodes, Naruto...

The gore and violence in this series doesn't compare to something like GANTZ- and it doesn't need to. It's perfect the way it is. The part of this anime that makes me want to turn away is the crushing defeat that pops up in the story. It's like getting hit by a bus on your way to the last day of school. But I love it, even if that makes me a masochist.

Now, obviously this anime was left open for a second season, and I would rather see this completed than Naruto (still watching- years later). That's how much I like it.

hope for more episodes

I'm pretty sure they are going to make more episodes because if they don't this anime was a waste of time. Is not a bad anime but if that was the ending it really sucks! Well while I wait i Can always watch Naruto or Bleach

Probably the best horror anime I've seen

I decided to watch this anime because I love the horror genre and I like anime series that don't drag on for too long. The opening song sounds fantastic, and I was surprised that all the lyrics were in english. The japanese ending song is also wonderful.
The animation was very cool, and the plot very exciting. Despite it being a horror, there were some funny moments. Most of the characters had a tragic backstory and some of the flashbacks and character deaths made me cry. There are a lot of twists and turns, and all episodes end dramatically making you want to watch more. I finished this series pretty quick because I couldn't stop watching. The ending was slightly disappointing because it is left open, with some characters still trapped in Deadman Wonderland, but that leaves hope for a season 2.
I would definitely suggest this anime to others, particularly anyone who enoys animes such as Elfen Lied and Higurashi.

this is a really good anime, the main story was really confusing but turned out to make sense in the end. this is an anime that i personally would recommend to a friend of the same age because there is a lot of parts that are really confusing. but this is an anime that i would definitely recommend seeing because it has really awesome fighting parts.

I finally found it...

Ever since falling in love with Ghost Hunt, and falling into a media driven depression when I found out there wouldn't be a second season I've been desperately searching for an anime to satisfy my craving for an anime with a dark, sweet and sour plot that makes you cringe and laugh in the same episode. Deadman Wonderland did the trick.

Storyline: Deadman Wonderland isn't the first anime let alone the first work of media or literature to introduce the notion of some higher authority hosting "gladiator like" matches for entertainment . (Battle Royal, Hunger Games, The Gamer, Death Race, ect. ect) However I think that this anime does give it an interesting supernatural twist. If I had a complaint it would be that the "incident from ten years ago" is really just brushed over. What I would have really liked to see is an introduction to the event in the first episode when they first introduce the "Wonderland" prison.

Music: I thought the music was well written. ESPECIALLY the opening. I also heart the woodpecker song for some ungodly reason...

Characters: One thing I really appreciated was getting a glimpse at the back stories of several of Wonderlands inmates. In both literature and real life you really can't get to know someone unless you know where they come from. There isn't anything I love more than broken Characters. The more mentally disturbed the better. My only complaint is that some characters just seemed completely useless and one dimensional. The prime example being the Warden she is present in several of the episodes but she never really poses a big threat to the director's plans nor is the audience told anything about her. The only relationship she seems to have is the one with her star struck assistant. She's like Team Rocket except she isn't funny, doesn't have a catchy introduction, and never "blast off".

Animation: I think the Animation is what initially drew me to this anime. As a fan of Eureka Seven I've always loved Kazuma Kondou's unique style. Especially when it comes to a character's face, though he uses the trade mark sharp lines and sharp angles that are associated with Anime, his technique seems to be more refined, giving life to his character's expressions. It definitely makes it into my top five best visually appealing anime series. *In no particular order here are my other four, Claymore, Samurai Champloo, Kurozuka, Ergo Proxy,*
