Demon King Daimao

Storyline
The Story deals with a much more satisfactory feel, yeah sure it may have the destined child grows up for greatness, but it also has the High school/ Drama/ Romance feel to it which by all means its a page turner at best , or in this case "cant wait to see the next episode feel". No ordinary High school, but more of a magic arts academy. this starting from what seemed at first just a normal world. So in stead of the constant hack n' slash rising soldier. deals with a more Mana(magic) based character. so far, as anime goes, it has the girls, the guys with no clue, magic, unknown power, explosions, tease, rising action, plot twist, dueling/combat, character relationship to one another, and rising rivals. all very nice to have , and not too much really, it is follow-able. makes me want to actually see what happens next.

Music
Effects were alright. Music was ok, didnt really see any problem with the soundtrack, wasnt annoying , but seemed too general, i hope they come out with a variety of intros, endings, to cater to different people (ex: Bleach). other than that it was good.

Characters
Another good one!!! the characters are alright, love-able seem to match the role they should play , or at least make it interesting how they will develop, the main character has something big to overcome, against the rest of the characters looks like hes having a hard time. character relation its pretty good, as far as how they act really affects the plot. in a way i think it should be, as long as the author doesnt decide to show it anymore extreme than it has. this really is the big part , because like most drama, the story really goes where the characters decide, "what will happen to him?" "What will she do ?".

Animation
The animation was a little choppy at the beginning. it also gives a feel of new age anime, 3d animation(not too much--not the crappy kind), "pokemon" like animation, and some pretty good effects for like sword busrts, magical auras (Bleach like). So its like an imbred of a few animation types. well put together Grats Animation Team!

This series is about a boy who transfers into a school of magic with the aspirations to get into a position that will allow him to make life better for everyone. Unfortunately when he has his future career fortune told he is predicted to become a demon lord. Ostracized by society he now has to fight against public misconceptions of his goals to prove he is who he says he is and not just the newest demon lord. Naturally this will not be easy.

I was a little surprised by this series, by the descriptor it seemed more like a comedy series than a harem anime with battle elements. That said it had plenty of amusing scenes. Such as rumours having flown around school and mutated to an extent that in the time it took for him to walk from the infirmary too the classroom that everyone’s afraid of him and one girl in particular believes that if he touches her she will get pregnant.

The characters failed to be that thrilling, Sai Akuto, the main character, was a fairly typical high-schooler thrown into an unwanted situation. But unlike a lot of leads in ‘harem’ anime he actually got a pair and is actually quite badass in a fight which earns him some points, even if he isn’t that interesting. He does have the time honoured desire to make the world a better place, and that and protecting his friends is his driving force.

Junko is a tsundere sword waving ninja, which is all she has going for her.

Fujiko starts out as an antagonist but rapidly falls for Akuto and uses her black magic too try and aid his (non-existent) world domination attempts; Including potion making and trying to tame magical beasts. She is also one of the main fan service sources of the series.

Keena for most of the series seems to be an airheaded character added for fan service and to fill the role. She does however assist events in the background to start with and become important towards the end. For members of a school on magic, other than her apparent unique invisibility, (that requires her to be nude as she can’t do it on clothing) she can only use flight making her seem to be rather talentless at magic.

Heroshi starts of as Akutos’ self-proclaimed right hand man, but later takes on the garb of masked hero, putting him at odds with his demon lord friend. Until this point he was your typical spineless toady just wanting to do his best.

The final central character is Korone, a ‘lilladan’, which is the series take on androids. She looks completely human except for a rabbit tail that is pulled to shut her down who is assigned to ‘watch over’ the demon lord. That being said she spends a lot of her time teasing Akuto. On example is when they just met and when he said they should sleep she gets into his bed alongside him to tease him for getting flustered.

I’ll avoid spoiler details but the ending was a couple of episodes or major battle and a bit of a bizarre twist at the very end. But it leaves itself very open to another series, which will hopefully answer a few unanswered questions. Such as whom that red haired girl in the church was if not Keena.

So all In all I’ll give the series a 7/10. Could have done with less fan service and more plot, but I would say it was above average. I certainly enjoyed it and if people want a mostly light hearted anime with battle scenes and don’t mind/ actually want the rather high levels of panty shots and breasts. Then it’s a good bet.

Very decent anime that i personally enjoyed. It leaves a lot to be desired in its 12 episodes and I think a second season should be somewhere in its future. I think it could have had a lot more success as a 24-26 episode series because the story seems too complicated to be explained in half that. Anyone who loves Zero No Tsukaima or similar anime should enjoy a bit more ecchi version of it or similar anime. Its character development was alright but i feel like the end of one episode didn't directly lead into the next and sometimes leaves you wondering what the hell happened in between.

Pro's :
- Likable characters with excellent voice work.
- Enjoyable art style and animation.
- quite a bit of fan service.
- Rather funny at times.

Con's :

- Although likable, Characters are very stereotypical.
- Doesn't take the genre anywhere another series hasn't already covered.
- Story left me feeling underwhelmed at the end.
- People who dislike nudity or fan service probably won't find this anime to their tastes.

In my opinion this anime is great for days when your brain just isn't working and you just wanna watch some crazy anime that can entertain you for a couple days. Just don't expect it to blow you away with something you have never seen before.

If you watched this show and enjoyed it than good for you however, if you are a fan of a coherent plot and are interested in depth that extends further than a bunch of sexually confused boys, ahem Akuto Sai, and "accidentally" slutty acting women, ahem almost every single one of them, than perhaps you should look elsewhere. Im not sure what the point of this show was but I think that the creator must have taken a lot of acid while watching Harry Potter and the Demon King was the result. In this series you have a sorting hat that some girl wears all over the place and a phoenix who sorts peoples "future occupations". I think that one of the most annoying things about this show was that it had so much promise for me in the beginning and by the time you meet the dragon "Peter Howsen" or whatever his name was the comedic value, and well just bout any aspect of the show that originally held any value at all completely evaporated. Just my opinion.
