For those who do not know anything about this anime yet: This anime is from the manga , (like most animes ) of which I am currently reading. Fairy Tail is originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine in Japan. The Fairy Tail manga has been a best-selling manga title in Japan since its introduction in 2006.
The individual chapters are being collected and published in tankōbon volumes by Kodansha, with 16 released as of August 2009(Wiki). The newest volume of Fairy Tail nr. 17 of the manga serie was released 2009-09-17 in Japan(I just bought it recently :)).
My opinion
From the first chapter, I was hooked. The plot was great, and the illustrations were unique and well made. The names of characters and the towns were so different that it truly felt like I was reading a story placed in a whole other world.
Months ago I read in Animage and Newtype(Japanese anime magazine I subscribe) that this manga was being formed into a full anime, I was so excited. I absolutely can not wait for it.
You should follow this anime closely, it will not disappoint you if you are into anime like One Piece, Naruto and D Gray Man.
As for me, I will be watching Fairy Tail closely and I will try to pick out any differences of the manga vs. the anime(that is what most fans do), although It does not concern me that much. I am definitely positively certain that this anime will follow the manga intently like the new Hagane no Renkinjutsushi(2009), and it will live up to it's expected standard, .-// as set by me
Author
The author is Hiro Mashima who was born on May 3, 1977 in Nagano Prefecture in northern Japan. His most popular series is Rave Master (a.k.a. Groove Adventure Rave) was a popular and long-running feature in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 1999 through 2005. Rave Master was also published in the U.S. by TokyoPop and has been collected into 35 volumes.
Story Summary:
In the land of Fiore, magic is everywhere. Sorcerers are like skilled tradesmen who band together in "guilds" and take on paying assignments for non-magic wielders, like hunting monsters, retrieving lost items or running odd errands.
Lucy is an aspiring wizard who wants to hook up with the coolest guild around, Fairy Tail. One day, she meets a red-headed boy who saves her from a unscrupulous wizard, and before she knows it, she's introduced to the wild and wacky band of wizards of Fairy Tail and begins the adventure of a lifetime.
The Fairy Tail mostly focused main characters
Lucy
Lucy is an aspiring celestial wizard, which means she has a ring of magic keys that she uses to conjure up powerful magical entities. Flirtatious and ambitious, Lucy dreams of joining Fairy Tail, a famous (and super-cool) guild of powerful wizards.
Natsu
Red-headed wizard Natsu is a happy-go-lucky guy who loves a good meal and a great adventure. His fire magic is unique, even amongst wizards. He's not only fireproof, he eats fire, shoots fire and super-powers his punches with fire. His major weakness? He's prone to motion sickness and can barely ride a car, train or plane without getting stomach-churning nausea(his prone for motion sickness is to such an extend that Natsu is unable to fight any opponents when he is having stomach churning nausea.
Since as little kid Natsu was raised by a dragon. That explains why he is able to breathe fire. The scarf Natsu is wearing is very important to him since it was a scarf which was given by the dragon Igneel who raised him.
Happy
Wide-eyed Happy is a talking blue kitty who is Natsu's sidekick and companion. Happy is not strong, but he wields a special kind of magic called Aera, which temporarily gives him wings and the ability to fly. Like every flying creatures has a limit of flying and the same goes for Happy.
Gray Fullbuster(my favorite character of Fairy Tail.- and do not ask me why(: )
Gray is an ice wizard who has a constant rivalry with Natsu. While they're fellow Fairy Tail guild members, Natsu and Gray are always constantly bickering(I hope we will see that in the anime). Gray's unexplainable eccentricity? He tends to forget that he's half-naked half the time. In the manga you often see Gray without any clothes on.
Erza Scarlet
Armored and dangerous, Erza is a fierce woman warrior-wizard who can whoop giant monsters and intimidate her fellow rowdy Fairy Tail wizards into polite submission. Natsu and Gray see her as a rival because she is known to be one of the strongest of the Fairy Guild.
