  • To whom it may concern. eh-hem (My friends)
This anime is a favorite of mine, get it in 720p or more. To appreciate this, you'll need all the p you can get.
    Lol...
Anyways.. Great art if you can dig the style and of course the story is amazing. A+ on all that.
Sound is not all too great. Good soundtrack though (Aside from the awful open and end). As always, watch in original japanese.
Some gay stuff but I'm into it. Have fun.

    gankutsuo is supa tight
the textures and animation for gankutsuou are really original and layered, kind of resembling a kaleidoscope of textiles. this was my go-to favorite for so long, and it still holds a big place in my heart, for nostalgic reasons. i haven't read the count of monte cristo so i can't really say how accurate or inaccurate it is but i think anyone who likes anime that kind of stands out from the rest ...

  • in short, fantastic!
an extremely amusing anime styled take on the count of monte cristo. the colors are vivid and exciting, the dialogue is fantastic, and the art style is entirely unique. One of the few anime i plan to rewatch again and again. i would recommend this to literally everyone i know.

  • I came for the Visuals. I stayed for the everything.
This anime, Gakutsuo, shall forever be remembered as 'that anime with the weird animation style.' But it's so much more than that! A compelling story of a man wronged by his former companions, sets out to get revenge in the most grand fashion. If I were to describe this anime in very few words, I would perhaps say 'some guy throws sh_t at the fan to get his enemies dirty, but than innocent people ...

    Goes in the wrong direction.
I wanted to like this anime, and I did - at first. I won't write a full review as I would be rewriting a lot of what has already been said. But, I feel someone needs to mention this since I haven't noticed anyone else saying it...

This anime ends up twisting the story of Monte Cristo into some kind of homosexual love affair between the two main characters without coming right out and saying it. ...

  • By Far the Prettiest Anime
The plot is based on the Count of Monte Cristo. Those who have read the book or watched the movie have an idea of what's going to happen next. But what's totally unique and unexpected is the animation style used. This anime is totally worth watching for that reason alone even if you already know the story. It's so ridiculously pretty.

    Great Classic Drama Anime!
This anime may start a bit slow at the start, but wow it picks up full speed!!!
It is full of intrigue, drama, betrayal, suspense, scandal, love, and friendship.
I would say it is a good adaptation of the novel. It is good to watch if you have read the novel or have not.
It may take a little time to get use to the unique animation but, soon you will realize it gorgeous!

This is one of my favorites
At first I found the art a bit distracting but their telling of The Count of Monte Cristo was excellent. I think all great literature could do with the addition of armored mecha and alien vengeance daemons.

  • creative and vividly colourful
This anime had a interesting storyline. It felt like they took a Shakespearean tale and made it into old victorian era and space age mixture but this might not suit everyone taste but it is good anime and the main character has a look of alucard from hellsing lol
