Gintama

Gintama is my favorite anime, and there is hardly a need for another review of this unparalleled show, but I feel compelled to add a small tribute to something so amazing.

While mostly a comedy, no other show will have your emotions reeling like Gintama does. It is amazing that despite the insanity of about 95% of the characters, as soon as the tone turns serious you find yourself deeply caring about their situations. The mood can change instantly from hilarious to serious to completely saddening to absolutely breath-taking action. No other anime has absorbed me like Gintama can, where one minute I am laughing out loud (literally) and the next I am tearing up.

Another beautiful thing about this show is the arc-filler harmony. The arcs in Gintama are simply amazing. A week between episodes has never felt so long. They usually consist of a very deep, moving story that combines its signature laughs with some of the most intense action scenes in anime. One fight that always comes to mind is Kagura vs. Abuto, some of which had me cringing in disbelief. And despite the often heart-wrenching drama that is so beautifully woven throughout the arcs, they always leave you feeling like you are on a cloud by the time the arc is over. Then when the fillers start, they are so entertaining you don't even care that much about waiting for a new arc. If you need proof, watch some of the re-released episodes that recently came out and be prepared to laugh. The reason I bring this point up is because most shows that have been around as long as Gintama have filler episodes that you can hardly stand watching because they are painfully lacking in quality compared to arc episodes.

I think the most I can say about Gintama is that it has, in a small way, actually affected the way I look at life. When I watch Gintoki, Kagura and Shinpachi interacting with everyday life and making the most out of bad situations or taking pleasure in the smallest of things, or going far out of their way to help a stranger, it actually drives me to want to slow my life down and enjoy the little things, and to help someone just for the sake of impacting someone's life. I have seen a lot of anime, and I can say for certain that no other show has actually motivated me to be better and live simpler. It might just be my feelings, but any show that can have that profound of an impact holds a great deal of respect from me.

So if you are considering giving Gintama a try, I hope you find it as enjoyable as I do. This show can capture you on so many different levels that it is hard to find someone who just downright hates it, although you might not love it as much as me. But from this viewer, no other anime is worth giving a shot more than Gintama. And to this viewer, Gintama will always be the king of anime.

I have gotten several of my friends hooked on anime just by showing them episode 1 of Gintama. This is an absolutely hilarious anime from ep1 and beyond. It's not all comedy though, it has a great balance of serious scenes that will make you shed a tear, as well as some excellent action scenes that make you root for Gintoki out loud. One of my favorites, it appeals to anime freaks and noobs alike. I strongly recommend this one to anyone.

Some of the jokes are too obscure for me, but there are so many references your bound to find some you get. I enjoy the comedy the most, but it's nice to have a more serious plot sometimes so I'm glad they throw that in there. There are really stand out episodes that just have me laughing out loud the whole time. Although I've only seen the first 50 episodes and only a few have been that funny, each episode gets at least a chuckle out of me. I'm really looking forward to watching this whole series, and the best part is I still have over 200 more episodes to watch. This is a must watch for me!!

Gintama is a comedy that pretty much gets its success from making parodies of other shows, and making edgy jokes. And if you aren't into that then its not for you. But if that's something you're into, then you are in for a good time. The show starts off slow but don't give in, by about episode 10 it kicks off then it keeps getting better. Don't even get me started on the jokes, this may be one of the funniest shows I have This ever watched. There are even times when you will have to pause the show just to laugh at the stuff. Sure, it may not be the most action packed show, but the comedy makes up for it tenfold. The only downfall is that the show got cancelled two or three times and its most likely going to get cancelled again(blame the PTA). And the story pretty much isn't going anywhere. Other than that, I would suggest that you, your friends, family, anyone who is willing to watch to give this show a chance. This may be one of the most underrated shows that I've ever watched and its sad that people are missing out on it.

Gintama é um anime de Gênero Comédia, paródia, ficção, drama,ação, artes marciais, Shonen/adulto. O anime/mangá se passam na era (Edo) quando os samurais viviam soutos pelas ruas com suas espadas, ate que os (Amantos) "Alienígenas que Invadiram a terra" assumem o controle de tudo. Mesmo com todos os esforços dos samurai para impedi-los, não fora o suficiente, e acabaram totalmente derrotados. Uma vez que os Amantos possuíam uma tecnologia incomparavelmente superior.

O protagonista da série se chama Sakata Gintoki, um samurai preguiçoso que adora doces. Gintoki se junta a Shimura Shinpachi, um jovem que cuida de um dojo que fora deixado pare ele e sua irma, como herança de seu falecido pai. E é claro que temos uma heroína "se é que podemos chama-lá assim" a pequena Kagura, uma garotinha que pertence a raça mais forte do universo "o temível clã yato".

Os três se juntam e formam os (yorozuya - Faz Tudo) eles aceitam qualquer tipo de serviço e acabam tendo muitas aventuras, sendo elas totalmente malucas, bizarras, perigosas e é claro engraçadas. Gintama é um anime voltado para comédia, mas também tem seus momentos de ação e pancadaria "são raros mas quando rola alguma dessas cenas, hum.... é simplesmente incrível".

Se você tem alguma duvida em relação essa fantástica obra, deixe-as de lado, não perca mais tempo e grite Dondake!!

The whole premise of the show revolves around those words "because they can".

Because they can.. they have a whole episode with one of the characters running around namek and finding freeza and killing both freeza and cell. (the characters look exactly like it but the names are changed slightly ie- Breeza instead of Freeza)

Because they can... the only thing limiting this show from being 18+ for indecent exposure are tiny mosaics that barely get in the way in time. Mind you, this aint no fanservice indecent exposure I'm talking about.

Because they can... They remade their opening (countless times) to parody other anime openings'.

Because they can... in an effort to end their own show, they tried to show a rip off of evangaleon's ending and claimed it as their own.

Because they can... countless times, the 'lazy' staff have left the characters a) colorless, b) motionless, c) drawn by a 5 year old and d) any other possible scenario where the staff are getting yelled at by the characters for lazing off.

Because they can... They even rope in the voice actors themselves and make jokes on them in the show. I swear, half the script is blank and everyone just throws in random comments to fill the time the mouth moves when recording.

...and a lot more. It's a crazy show that literally has no 4th wall (not to mention characters constantly trying to bring back that 4th wall... but usually fails) and themes range from online MMORPG arc (monster hunter rip off), tried-but-failed (and the characters recognize it themselves) harem arc, video gaming (on the wii) arc, an otaku-centric arc, zombie arc... to more serious murderous sword arc, robots take over the world arc, battle 'tournament' arc (more like a game but people fight against each other 1 vs 1, so the closest to a tournament), onmyouji arc, ghost in a haunted inn arc, turf war arc... etc

Each arc ranges from 2 -6 episodes. (that's why there are soooo many) and will ALWAYS start off with humor and before you know it, turn 180 into a serious tone (but it's done so well, it links together beautifully). You WILL laugh and cry on the same episode, if not in the same arc- I guarantee you this (if not just tear up slightly). The show also has the best lines... both in a funny way and an inspiring way.

"Rather than dying a beautiful death, why not live beautifully instead?"

In the serious side of Gintama, you'll be aspired and inspired to live your life the best way you can. Hope for humanity would be restored by a few lines or a few gestures, and you, too will realize that you can stand up again regardless of how many times you fall down. You can almost say the side characters that constantly fall and stand back up on their own two feet is what makes the aspiring part of Gintama (as well as Gin-san's lines).

In a nutshell, I have never seen a show that could throw me into a roller coaster of emotions like Gintama. In one of the gag episodes, I was laughing, crying, scared and angry all at the same time. (Laughing at myself for getting caught by a stupid scare-attempt after a sad story and angry that the show trolled me so hard)

I hope you, too, will give this show a try. Sorachi = Genius.

This anime is definitely the best piece I've watched. I tried to watch the other famous amines out there too like Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. I totally hated One piece, it seem too childish for my liking. Naruto and Bleach are nice but the constant and annoying fillers absolutely kill my enjoyment. Gintama on the other hand is HILARIOUS AND HYSTERICAL. You laugh your butt off from start to finish. Of the 250 episodes I've watch so far, i kid you not, i didn't like about 3 or 4 of the whole series. This was a master piece. The makers of Gintama are gods regarding the proper use of irony, sarcasm, dark humor, dirty jokes, and overall comedic devices. The only thing i complain would be the heavy use of Japanese references. Sometimes they use parodies of Japanese actors ,singers, politicians or any other person that you have no clue who they are. It's not unusual for me to google a name while watching Gintama. But i tell you, when you find out what they are talking about, you can't stop yelling "genius! genius! " at the screen. Fantastic show 5 *
