GJ CLUB

I've only watched the first four episodes so far, but since there were no reviews and the comments were ambiguous, I thought I would give it a shot.

*Update: I've watched 10 episodes now. Pretty much my entire review still stands. I'm baffled as to why another reviewer gave 5 stars to series they call mediocre, just because they liked one aspect of it. Overall, Azumanga Daioh did it better*

It's a weak harem setup, with a male protagonist who is as ordinary as "white rice" who has the personality of a "herbivore". Those are quotes from the show, so they aren't taking themselves too seriously. The girls like him, but no evidence of any deeper connection thus far. They do like to tease him (and each other) in various ways. This is the main plot impetus, and has some funny moments.

The episodes are full length, with about 95% of the show taking place in their club room. The female characters are typecast quite early, with no big surprises there. The CR description says something about the protagonist (that's kind of strong word to describe him) being coerced into joining the club, but that wasn't developed in the first 4 episodes. The five of them are just always in the club room, trying to stave off boredom. *UPDATE: Apparently they kidnap people that walk by the club room to get new members. *

I kept hoping he would turn some of the teasing back on the girls, but no, he's too nice a person to do that. Instead he suffers in silence and I feel no sympathy for him. *UPDATE: Another reviewer said they like how the main character reacts to the situations the girls put him in. *sigh*. He reacts the same way every male character does in every anime show, which is embarrassed. A few of the situations they get into are pretty funny, so I'll keep watching. Watch the show with moderate expectations and you'll enjoy it*

Probably my biggest surprise in the series happened in the first 30 seconds when they spelled McDonald's correctly on the restaurant marquee. McDonald's is probably a sponsor.

On a final note, I did kind of like the ending theme. *UPDATE* They keep changing the ending theme. It was episodes 3&4 ending that I liked.

The guy below me has his opinions. Well, I do too. I rated this 5 stars for a reason.

ART: It's just amazing. Look how cute it is, Not sure if this is a budget anime or not but it has pretty high standards. Nothing vivid or mind blown but definitely good.

Plot: One of the weakest plot you'll ever encountered, not for anyone who wants a storyline to follow. It has a weak harem. I would recommend this for casual anime fans like me :3

This is more like a break for people who recently watched something very hardcore like Angel beats! or anyone who seems to be interested in "kawaii" 2D girls. I guess that's all I have to say.

Since the very first first episode I have loved the series thus far. GJ-bu works as harems do, in support of the female characters over the male lead. However, this is not the case. The main character is very likeable, just like the female characters. This is GJ-bu's strength. The majority of the female characters are likeable, albeit with regards to opinion, with beautiful art to follow it. The setting is almost 100% in the club room, which is the best part. The story pulls off what a club can do in one clubroom. The pacing is actually quite quick, every episode consists of multiple days. If ever in need of a great casual watch, GJ-bu is definitely a good choice. This series is even good enough for a re-watch whilst it is still airing.

I actually read the spotlight article on that was listed on the news headlines page a couple days ago decided to give this show a shot. I had heard people compare it to no Haganai, and even saw comparisons to Student Council Indiscretion. I have to say the GJ Club does the best of these shows at character development, and has the best cast of characters as the club members of GJ all have distinct, interesting personalities while avoiding being to cliche. Like no Haganai and Student Council Indiscretion, this show seems to be of the slice of life and parody variety and has no overall plot or final destination that it seeks...the true enjoyment comes from watching the characters develop and interact on a daily basis. If you're into shows that are just entertaining with nicely developed characters, give it a try!
