  • <3 Watch it NAAAOW!!
LOVED this show! It was not too kawaii (perfect amount 4 me) and had an interesting story line. Character development was just perfect! I wish there was another season that goes on into the future, because the ending definitely left me wanting MORE!!

  • Great starter series for me
This is my first series that I've watched on here and I have to say I loved it so much that I am absolutely gutted there's no more to watch. I'd like to hope there will be more but I am guessing as this is from 2011 there won't be anymore which is a shame, I'd love to see what happens!

  • Not worth trying to get emotionally invested.
I started watching this show looking for a slice of life that would make me feel emotionally invested. By about the 16th episode, I honestly realized that I was forcing myself to watch this. I don't care for any of the characters. ANY of them. That's never happened before and especially not this far into an anime. But the things that go on in the inn are not relatable (especially the thought ...

  • Makes me want to stay at this kind of traditional Ryokan
High school girl sent from Tokyo to live at the family's old inn, where we get to meet the staff and locale. I've stayed in a couple of larger hotels in Japan which reminded me of this setting, a family run Ryokan perhaps past its glory days and being run on a skeleton staff - including high-school waitresses and kitchen hands.

A fun character driven series, nicely done and believable. Marred ...

  • A superior 'slice-of-life' anime
Superior. That's the word that describes this series. There's fun, romance and comedy, but all toned down and not in excess; it's more 'grown-up' and plausible than similar anime, and there are some dramatic moments too. The two-season run length is just right. Truly a fine series. Kudos.

  • Wanted to keep watching from episode one!
Wonderful anime! It contains all the elements that made me want to keep watching to learn what happens. There is love, misunderstandings, friendship and wonderful characters. The characters are more similar to those one might find in real life compared to many other animes. They seem very real and they are not very stereotypical, which I enjoy because one can relate to them in a different way than ...

  • Quaint show about quaint hotel.
I really enjoyed this. Many slice of life shows do not manage to have believable characters or people who are over the top caricatures, but this one manages to pull out realness in a special way. I dont know if I would watch a follow up if one was made because the ending was so well done it might be spoiled by the attempt.

  • Brillant Slice of Life Story with Hardships and Drama!
Hanasaku Iroha is a beautiful story about a girl and her coming-to-age life story with many aspects of drama, romance, passion, dreams, and genuine humour. Ohana has declared to be one of my most favourite fictional characters there are in literature. She stands out when compared to many people, especially when compared to the real world because it is extremely rare to encounter a person with ...

  • Awesome slice of life anime
So much character development and emotions involved. The anime brings out a lot of nuances that are fundamental to the Japanese culture. Japanese folks would often take pride in the kind of jobs we often take for granted and seem inferior in comparison to western culture, and these thoughts, the pride, the emotions and the dreams that goes with it are properly communicated and conveyed throughout ...
