Oedipus complex but not really

Ok, if this was supposed to be a take on the Oedipus complex tale i think they missed it.

First off , just how old is the mother? At the end of the movie, you hear the hunter who shoots the sun say "you're the 1000th beast". So um, just how many times did the mother have babies by her children, and where are those children? The son even tells his student that he didn't care how old she is or even that she's his mother. I think he said her age was 200 or something like that.

Secondly, why not just get rid of the oldest brother awhile back. If the curse lies with the women and they run things around there, why was the brother the one they were afraid of? Shouldn't it have been Miki or her crazy sisters and neices?

Third, What is up with the hunter? Why is he killing the Inugami? If he still loves her (Miki) didn't he realize killing her offspring hurts her? Why didn't he just kill her and stop the curse if she's the one that the job of controlling the inugami passed to?

This was one way out, whacked out movie and is very confusing and full of holes. I absolutely loved the scenery though. Those woods and springs and beautiful backdrops kept me riveted to the story actually. I was done with the storyline once I realized that it was some type of horror flick, but I wanted to see how the forest or woods played into the story.

Okay, I'll admit that I love the weird stuff when it comes to movies, but this one really was off the deep end. We watch and listen to everyone talk about a curse, that is only on the women of this family. It can only be controlled by the women of this family and the rest of the town is afraid of them.

We are shown the our lead female character is to blame for all hell finally breaking loose in the village, but not enough explanation as to why this curse started. If you pay attention to this storyline, the mother had given away her son after giving birth to him only to adopt him back into the family years later. I'm going to guess that when she had done this, she had no idea it was her real son. Also, they gave no explanation as to why the mother gave her son away in the first place. He then falls in love with her daughter, who at that time, he's unaware of the fact that she's his sister.

These two conceive a child, he disappears again, the mother takes her daughter to the hospital and later tells her daughter that the child she gave birth to has died. We don't know when the brother comes back the second time to become the drunken head of the family, but he still makes his sisters life hell. He's a loser, she's been forced to be the breadwinner, and we eventually find out that he's been trying to have a relationship with his sister again.

As you keep watching, you find out that the mother, who we've been watching walk around the house and talk to Miki, has been dead for a couple of months, and Miki is possessed by her. Calling all exorcists! I didn't see this one coming and yet it was no shock to the family.

There was talk of building a golf course which would have made the village prosperous IF the cursed family sold their land. Wow, we fear you, don't want to marry into your family, but we'll gladly make money off of you. What a village, instead of a golf course, they needed to build a mental institution. Anyway, a young man now appears in the village, gets involved with Miki, if things weren't weird enough in the beginning of this movie, we end up with history repeating itself as Miki gets pregnant by her own son...the new young man in town.

How do people come up with this stuff? Look, this movie is so twisted, YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT....very....very....carefully!

Interesting to say the least.

I watched this movie a couple of years ago just because it was in the used DVD bin for like $5.

Its a story that develops into a mother initially having an affair with her teacher son, without knowing its her son. Its not the most amazing film i've ever watched, but I did enjoy it. It pulls you into this town build on dirty secrets and misery. The ending leaves you feeling like, yay? You're not sure how to feel about the end. You're happy they're together because she had a miserable life, but also its a romantic relationship with her biological son, which she knew nothing about. Its worth a viewing at least. Its not something I watch a lot, but I do find myself going back to it once in a very great while.

The happy ending is a dude having a baby from his mother and half the town killing themselves. I give it two thumbs up. This has to be the weirdiest one I have watched. There is no one to root for. They all are trouble choices. You could be on the side of Miki the possessed women that had a baby with her bother and then gets pregnant from their son or the crazy town that wants to kill everyone and themselves but based on this movie they seemed to have a right in doing so. To me this is an okay movie. Not great and would not watch again but I was into the story and did enjoy it a little.
