Ixion Saga DT

For decades people have wondered how a show should be judged. Wether on how good it is on it's own merits or on what they creators set out to do. Well this weeks anime provides just such a dilema. The show has obvious problems but does better at what I hope it set out to do than most animes I've seen. But is it worth mentioning? Let's take a look at Ixion Saga DT.

Kon is a normal teenage boy who is spends his time playing a MMRPG (that is absolutely NOT Monster Hunter), where he is going nowhere until a girl in the game asks him for his help in the "real world" and he agrees. However he is sent to a fantasy setting much like the game he had been playing. He saves a princess and her followers upon his arrival from the sky, when he lands squarely upon the leader of the group threatening them. He ends up joining the princess's group as he searches for a way back to his own world.

First thing to notice is the opening. Most of it I don't really like musically but I does do somethings differently and for the better. It has some of the characters speaking during the opening which really grabs your attention. And also, I just love the opening part of it when their just shouting "D! T! D! T! D! T!" How can you not sing along with this. The music is just generic but those other parts really make it worth while.

When it comes story in Ixion Saga, I don't have a high opinion of this shows choice of story. Granted one of my favorite mangas has this kind of story, but the "regular-person-goes-to-a-fantasy-world" story has been done so much, it's the size of all the plot holes from this very series. I mean, they are in a fantasy world with magic, mystic creatures, skilled swordsmen and they have Guns, Rocket launchers, and Tanks!? But even though they exist, they still try and use swords more than tanks. IT'S A TANK!? THEY ARE RIGHT THERE, JUST SHOOT THEM!! *Ahem* Sorry. The animation is also nothing special. If anything, it's sub par. Not really anything worth mentioning.

Now with all of this stuff to mention that is bad about it, why is it that I would recommend this anime to anyone looking for a new show to watch? Well, because this anime is the funniest I've seen in a long time. And you can tell that it was meant that way too. The villains look like their chip and dale Military dancers, the main villain loses the same way twice in a row (Because any more would be redundant), and the biggest twist I've seen is so simple it hurts XD! It's just, "Thats a guy". I'm not even giving anything away by saying that either.

My final verdict on this anime, I have some mixed feelings for it. I love it's sense of comedy and how they make the main character a jerk to his enemy's and the world jerks back at him.... wait, that didn't come out right. However this doesn't save the show from the problems. Again, TAAAAAAANKS!!! I just scream and shout at the screen everytime I watch this show. The villains aren't even interesting, and thats the only thing in their way. This anime coming from the same people(Brain's Base) who brought us every character in Baccano! and Durarara! But then again, these people brought us Princess Jellyfish, so it starts to make sense. I was sceptical about watching this show. I can now understand why, but I'm glad I watched it anyway.

Ixion Saga DT was created by Capcom and is produced by Brain's Base, Ixion Saga DT Partners, Pony Canyon, and TV Tokyo. The series is not finished and thusly has not been released state side. PLEASE SUPPORT THE OFFICIAL RELEASE!

It has its moments and can be quite funny, but the episodes have bad direction. The lead character gets on my nerves sometimes and the tranny is weird (loved the fake backstory although it was hardly believable lol). I also dislike the focus on Eryc's balls. I know it's supposed to be funny, but when they bring up the realities it's true that he can't have kids or a normal sex life... Seems like an average show, but I think they need a new focus.

This show doesn't take itself seriously and you should either. If you appreciate the style of comedy through parody this show is about, it's a goldmine of good, albeit immature jokes. Just try watching it yourself, it only takes a couple of episodes and you'll know if it's for you. If you don't like the dick jokes in episode one, you still won't like the dick jokes through to episode 8, but if that kind of humor is your thing, this series is a excellent example of how to do stupid comedy in anime

You need to watch more than the first episode or two to really appreciate the humor of this show and to understand it's soul. Anyone decrying the character of the show has not bothered to watch more than an episode or two. If you've clicked on this series then you are the type of person willing to try new things. Getting acquainted with this series and it's lovable cast of heroes and villains will be greatly rewarding to such a person.

The humor runs the gamut from slapstick and low brow to very smart and sometimes both at once! Like Gintama and Sket Dance there are anime and video game references a-plenty for fans of all things otaku. The setups for the episodes in this show are totally off the wall and yet they don't devolve into Cromartie High levels of randomness. These adventures have structure and the climaxes of each story arc do not disappoint, unlike other shows that specialize in a sort of intentionally anti-climactic sense of humor.

As of Episode 8 I actually think this is one of the funniest anime programs I've ever watched and there is not one episode (starting with episode 3 I'd say) where I did not laugh out loud at at least one of the gags. This is a show with a great heart and a real desire to have fun and please it's viewers and I sincerely hope that you will give the show a shot and enjoy it as I do!

I've seen many anime shows in the past that try to incorporate both humour and a stable storyline. While most fail this anime is able to remain humorous while still having some form in regards to its plot. Those who dislike this anime simply on its choice in humour (or in one case, clothing) need to see the bigger picture. Sure, there are a lot of "ball" jokes, but there are many other forms of humour too. Besides, this is the first anime I've seen that has a tranny (a funny one at that) as a character. I love the art style and the personalities of the characters. People need to stop being such nit-pickers and enjoy an anime without being overly analytical.

If you come into this hoping for the standard sword & sorcery, historical/fantasy shounen adventure fare, you're probably going to be disappointed.

I rather despise that genre, because they're all the same. Once you've seen one, you might as well have seen them all. They re-use the same tropes and devices, and don't much original fare to offer.

This series takes those tropes, and irreverently plays with them.

The princess isn't a sexy teen girl (she's not even cute enough to be a loli) and the sexy teen girl isn't actually even….
The cute animal mascot (which EVERY hero group must have), is at war with the hero.
And, erm, "crotch problems" take center stage.

Basically, you can watch it without knowing quite knowing what's going to happen next. Except that it's not going to quite turn out the way it's "supposed to", or at least, not the way we've been conditioned to expect.

This is a comedy that's given me lots of healthy laughs so far; I've seen up to episode 4, and looking forward to watching more.
