I'm not usually a fan of sports anime, but every now and then one comes along that catches my interest. I am happy to say that Kuroko's Basketball is one of those titles. At first I was hesitant to watch the series because of the fact that I'm not usually drawn to a sports anime. What made me change my mind? I remembered how much I played basketball for fun, and a year in school, and I was suddenly drawn to check out the series. Weird I know, but sometimes childhood memories are good for getting you to check out something in which you never saw yourself watching, I guess.
I started out watching episode one, and then before I knew it I was already on the seventh episode in the same day. Normally I try to limit myself to watching no more than five episodes a day, and so I was shocked that I had gotten so hooked on one series that it caused me to forget about my daily anime limit. Seeing as close as I was to catching up I went ahead and finished the remaining episodes in the same day. I figured what was another two or three episodes, and besides the show was pretty exciting to watch.
I loved every minute of each and every episode. Watching the members of the Seirin team each match through a mix of hard work and excellent teamwork never fails to keep me cheering for each and every member of the team. Kuroko may only have one skill, but the way he passes the ball around has proven more than once to be a huge asset to the team. It's proof that sometimes even the so-called 'weaker' players can be a huge help. Also it tells me to always be careful and never underestimate anyone by appearances alone.
The cast of characters is great, and I can easily find something to like about each and every one of them. The games are intense, and I have found myself on the edge of my seat a few times already. Animation wise it is a beautiful show to watch, with great character designs and high attention to detail. I look forward to watching the rest of the series, and cheering for Seirin to win it all. It made me fall in love with basketball all over again, and I never expected that to happen from watching anime.
Kuroko's Basketball is quickly growing to become one of my favorite sports anime. The last sports series that kept my attention like this was Prince of Tennis, and only time will tell whether or not Kuroko's Basketball will prove to be better than that title or not.
