I've written a review about reverse harem animes based on otome games.
Most animes can't pull it off. But this is KOEI, the very people who invented the genre, so naturally they do a better job than other non-KOEI sponsored animes on the genre.

I'm going to start with plot. Okay, this particular type of music is not my cup of tea, especially bland drivel that most high school musicians have to puke back out in performances. So the "classical" selections they did could have been better, but the basic method of learning about music is there and man is it a different thing for a plot to focus on. I certainly hadn't expected it, but it was a good diversion from the typical multiple guys protecting one girl. At certain parts though, I didn't feel they had much connection and maybe they could have expanded on her getting help from her fellow students and I wish I understood their fascination with her, but I don't. They just say they all admire her for some reason and leave it at that. Individual reasons for being fascinated with her could have been in more detail.
Characters is next. All are different and dynamic. That's great, and a few have a good underlying purpose behind their struggles. But a few seem off balance. For example, Tsukimori is this brooding kid for no particular reason other than he feels "pressure" to achieve because his mother is a world famous musician. His mother isn't pressuring him or anything to be a world renown violinist, but the way he acts its like she's holding a gun to his head forcing him to play. Meanwhile, Yunoki has real pressure in comparison. He has to be a stand out individual. The best he can be BUT he can't be better than his siblings. So he, literally is trapped. How am I supposed to be sympathetic towards Tsukimori's "stuggles" when in comparison to a kid like Yunoki, his angst seems so trivial. Hihara and Shimizu I'm not sure what their motivations are or struggle, but obviously I wasn't as invested.
This anime does fall into a trap of highlighting three of the five guys, but sort of pushing the other two back, which is unfortunate because those ignored two seem to very interesting in and of themselves.
Overall though, the guys (for the most part) are interesting and I can easily differentiate between them.
Now the main lead, Hino, is a good female lead. Of course, I hated her at first since she is literally handed talent without having to work for it. But later in the series, she's forced to start over from scratch and actually does develop her skills and character. Even when she does have the talent, she feels guilty for having such skills while others worked years and years to achieve the level they are at.
I wish this show was more like Scrubs. A comedy mostly, with a few poignant scenes to bring out the seriousness. The first half of the show I was laughing my ass off and then it did a full 360 into a serious drama during the second half. I'm sorry, a show about high school music students doesn't need THAT much drama. The show got away with the stupid cliche's like falling on a guy because it was set up as a comedy, but when it shows itself as a serious drama, those cliches seem...well...cliche. They should have kept the comedy throughout.
One thing they did RIGHT which I can't emphasize enough when people make animes based on otomes is that the main doesn't directly choose anyone. At least not obviously.
I know I've seen reviewers who are pissed because "I want to see if she ends up with Len!!!" or whatever, but that type of ending lacks any sort of purpose for the main lesson of the story.
Otomes are setup so that the player can choose which guy she wants to go for, because everyone has different tastes. Unfortunately, most of the time animes choose a guy for you and you have to like him apparently. It's usually the most angsty, most tsundere, most generic looking, most obviously boring of the guys, and this show was making it obvious that we were supposed to cheer for the cliche blue-haired tsundere to end up with the girl (which I couldn't stomach personally) but thankfully they didn't show her personal choice that I'm aware of. THAT's how you should end one of these. Leave the forced romance to the non-otome reverse harems.
So, yes, I am ECSTATIC that they didn't reveal who her love interest was. It allows me to use my imagination that she learned something other than how to get angsty violinists to like you.
Is it a GREAT anime? No, most harems and reverse harems aren't, but its pretty freaking good for an anime of this genre. It's far from perfect, but since I usually don't get too invested in this type of thing, I don't mind. The pacing is good, the characters as a cast are good, the plot is something different. So yeah, despite some personal woes about a few of the characters, its worth the watch.
