An anime to plaster your walls with

When people ask me what my favourite anime is, this is the one I point them to. I love it because it is just so PRETTY. I would love to plaster a room with Last Exile posters, but I'm afraid it would make me look creepy.
This anime is great for people who like steampunk. The aesthetic is perfect, just grungy enough and with wonderful airships. I like that they don't get too technical, as that can be a downfall for shorter series. If you've got a series that'll span over 100 episodes, that's the time to get into details for the hardcore fans. This one balances it well.
The characters are engaging and memorable. It's good when a series succeeds in getting you to root for the heroes, but has villains engaging enough that you want to watch them do their stuff. Claus is a chick magnet.
I like that the story doesn't reach too far beyond what the characters know. We aren't shown too much beyond what they can know and it helps keep the mystery interesting. I would love for there to be a prequel though, because I was left curious as to how this world was created. I mean, why use the Cyrillic alphabet? While I wouldn't mind a sequel, I liked how the series ended.

Two childhood friends make their way on a journey encountering a little girl with hidden powers, a mysterious battle ship captain and crew, a "Guild" member and the "Maestro" (Leader) of '"The Guild".

This is better than it seems at first. It should get more good reviews! Not at all what it seems like at first. Kinda' steem punk-ish.
Overall a solid 4.5. As a former premier member from 2007 (when there were many more of the best animes available) I find this one very watchable.

What a gem--this does not try extremely hard to impress, but it does

The animation and art is so beautiful, and the world is original and down-to-earth. There's a sense of gritty fantasy to all of it from its believable characters, detailed backgrounds, and interweaving plotline.

In one word, it's epic. In a way more artistic than Bleach, more standoffish than Naruto, and calmer than Mayazaki. The only reason it falls short is because there's so many things unanswered, so many possibilities unexplored.

This i would have to say is probably one of the best story telling series for a anime i have ever seen. Now it would have been better if they had more episodes to extend the story a little more. But for the amount of episodes that they have they were able to tell a complete an dramatic story full of detail that allows viewers to get sucked into the story line. If any anime were to go to the big screen in either live action of just as is this would have to be one of them that is if they dont ruin the story with time constraints. The animation is top notch they pay so much attention to detail that it makes your screen come alive. An thats not just with the characters but every aspect of the anime it self from the back ground images to the air ships them selves. With the story set in a steam punk universe it will definitely be a must watch for anyone who likes scifi animes.

First let me start of by saying this project is very impressive. Every aspect has a sense of refinement and thought rarely found in any episodic production. The art, the music and story are very detailed and developed. It feels like every episode is a featured film, there is that much polish evident in the production quality. My only complaint is that they had the ability with such rich content to be more detailed with the foundational plot points. It takes you almost twenty or more episodes to grasp the world that they live and the environment that they struggle with.. There migrants from earth? How did the guild seize power? Were they the leaders when they landed on the planet? Why was Exile not released when they arrived. Why does it happen dozens of generations later? Was that an original plan from the guild as a control measure? Bottom line you exit the plot with more questions than answers. The plot rewards are very generalized and non specific. I think this is a casualty of the limited space provided within twenty four episodes. To expand the story I think they could have taken two seasons to tell the story.
I love anything sci-fi and it even took me a very long time to grasp the premise of this story. The story is not overly complex. I just feel like certain details were omitted. I would not be upset with that if the complete explanation was provided at the end, but it just never comes. I would recommend this series for anyone who loves great production value and being immersed in a foreign world with two lifetime friends in a plot that has a huge scale to it. I enjoyed the series and in the end it just left me with a tinge of frustration. ACE

Simply one of the best series I have ever watched. Clever script, beautiful animation, great characters, and you feel good after you have experienced it.

I can't wait for the novel to be translated into English.

A wonderful soundtrack too.
