Medaka Box

First of all, let me just say that it is an honor to be one of the first to write a review for Medaka Box. I had high hopes for this series, ever since I started reading the manga. Medaka Box is truly brilliant in every single way. It's a star that shines brighter than all the rest. It's one of those animes that just makes you feel happy inside. The chemistry the characters have between each other is just remarkable in it's own way. I think this is well on it's way to becoming one of the best series of 2012. I mean it's got everything: action, comedy, a smidge of romance, and of course everyone's favorite: ecchi. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride on this happy crazy show called Medaka Box! I guarantee you won't regret it! If you don't watch any new anime this season, at least give this one a go. It's one worth watching.

Medaka Box is a strange show since it proposes a strange character design. Medaka (the main character) is the new Student Council President and is trying to recruit more member to it while also helping anyone in need. The problem with her character is that... well she is pretty much perfect. That sucks... having a character that can do unhuman things with relative ease is pretty lackluster for design unless you treat that character right. This show doesn't do that justice though... and it is somewhat infuriating.

The other characters range from dolts with not much thought placed into them to characters that are actually enjoyable to watch. The Treasurer gal and the young looking eating chick (I'm sorry, I blanked out on names, forgive me) are both funny and nice to watch and the main guy isn't too bad either. The others are all fairly disposable but Medaka ranges from being a character I want to watch... to suddenly one I don't want to watch. The best times involving her are ones where she actually shows failure, such as the fact that animals are afraid of her and she dresses up as them (that is funny).

The music isn't very good for me. Opening theme is rather disposable to me, but the ending theme has some kind of charm to it. The music provided in the show does a good enough job. The animation is alright and the art style of the characters is interesting, to say the least. There is some fanservice, as you would suspect, from Medaka mostly and although it comes off as comedic sometimes it also seems a little unnecessary.

On the grounds of a comedy, Medaka didn't do too hot. But, the 7th episode showed large improvement (was actually funny), especially after powering through that awful first episode. The only episodes I really enjoyed were the 2nd and 7th episodes, as they were genuinely funny while slowly chugging the plot along. The series however does something really stupid, THEY CHANGE THE GENRE AT EPISODE 8/9. WHAT. THE. HECK. That is pretty late in a series that is only 12 episodes (Yea, I know it is getting a second season and people who watch the manga already saw it coming, but I don't read manga very much and I picked the show up for comedy).

This error was really unneeded, especially since the action made no sense (War God Mode, eh? Just say Super Saiyan). The comedy wasn't really good before hand anyways, so when the second season rolls along, maybe I will watch for the action that time. In the end, Medaka Box remains a huge disappointment for this season, in fact it is probably the worst show of the season for me. If you are looking for a great action or comedy show, I would say to look somewhere else.

Medaka Box is a show that is highly generic but has it's own twist. However you can't help but fill like you've seen it before. I gave it a try, being a big fan of the 'monogatari' series(due to both having the same writer) but was disappointed, this show didn't meet my expectations, even with Nisio Isin. The artwork is vibrant but could be more refined. Overall, I'd say it's average. GOOD for what it is, just dont expect any sort of depth or overwhelming originality here.

I heard so many things about the manga even though I didn't read it. People had such praise waiting for this show. But truth be told, I didn't think it was amazing until the final episodes when we had a full council and enemies finally. I wish there were more people like Medaka, although minus the unnatural abilities. And also people like Hitoyoshi, who always help the leader and things go smoother. I liked Medaka Box, it was entertaining, had a few good lessons, and definitely proved that it was an anime show.

The story was rough at the beginning. Just doing normal quests made it so slice of life and I expected a little more. But towards the end it got its act together and was more enjoyable waiting every week.

I liked the opening and ending, but not as standouts. Music throughout the show was decent, but better in times when Medaka was giving her speeches.

All of the characters were enjoyable, if I didn't like some like Unzen. The four student council members all had different traits that made a complete package. Shiori is also a very very interesting character when you deeply analyze her.

The animation seemed a little low, everybody kinda all having the same looks and facial expressions. Although episodes 10 and 11 had terrific fight scenes with everything being destroyed.

When I first saw this title popup in a manga, I had to get it. I still read it. When I saw this popup in anime, I had to watch it. I'm so glad I did! Hoping for a 2nd season!

Zenkichi is an ordinary guy trying to live peacefully in an ordinary world. Well he used to until is childhood friend requests him to become a part of the student council. Medaka is that childhood friend. When she's around, nothing will ever be the same! Logic flies out the window! Expect to watch this show without using your brain much, because once again, nothing will make sense!

When I first watched Medaka Box, I stopped about half way though the first episode. Why? Due to the obvious use of Medaka-chan to use her looks and ample cup size to get things done. But after thinking for a day, I re-watched the first episode and then the season.

If you look beyond Medaka's use of her body to fulfill requests (through her sexuality or just from beating someone) you see that there's a plot in here...past the boobs. Medaka becomes Student Council president to help people, but as it turns out, she's in a special class of her own. Class 1-13, a class made of up students who have superhuman abilities that separate them from the rest of the normal students. This wasn't gone into in depth, but I suspect that it will be in a follow-up season.

For now, the show does a good job of introducing most of the major players and letting the audience see how they interact with each other. the animation is crisp, the music isn't really that memorable and the fight scenes that the anime had were epic, but too short for my taste. they don't have to be DBZ or Bleach long, but I was hoping for more than a few minutes.

Overall, I like the anime and hope to see more of it later, but I want more fights and a bit more substance to the plot other than Medaka being the president and her gathering members. It worked for now, but hopefully, which it looks like there will be some more conflict added into the series.

When we make our first look at Medaka Box (first episode) we owe to think "huh, i guess it isn't that bad..." and so you start thinking of other animes you seen and comparing it with Medaka Box, which will lead you to say that because the start of the anime wasn't really that punching, you feel like losing interest in it. And its okay actually, since the series was made to be that way, its just one of those good old fashioned series that it has good graphics, nice sounds, very normal plot, but later on, it just explodes right in your face! Literally in some cases >.> Medaka Box is NOT your all romance-harem kind of anime (or at least it won't be yet, the romance part though) but a high packed, suspenseful and yet controversial kind of series, which is clearly shown in the manga and if a second season is made, maybe, and just maybe, it will be able to show the true art of it.
