Mobile Suit Gundam Wing

This anime is truly one of the childhood classics for those born in the early 90's, especially since it was one of the first of the Gundam series to be aired here in the US. Armed with superb characters and plot line this Gundam series is by far the best of them all. The recurring themes are somewhat dragged on through the series but nevertheless they are meaningful. If you liked this anime, do not fail to watch the movie/ova Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz! For those hesitating on watching the series, be sure to watch it before it comes to its end here at Crunchy Roll or go out and purchase the series for you will most likely end up re-watching it over and over. Thank you Crunchy Roll for allowing us to reminisce in our childhood years and hopefully this series may come back in the future.

For many Americans, Gundam Wing is probably the first Gundam series seen. I was just a kid when it first appeared on Toonami, and obviously from the website I'm making this review from, I haven't stopped since. Since I was a kid the first time I watched this, the plot line didn't have to be very strong as long as the gunshots and explosions were big enough to cause me distractions.

After rewatching, there are some pretty obvious plot holes within the storyline, and sometimes the time it takes for things to happen seem unrealistic at best. The factions that come throughout the series are rather ridiculous, as one faction is actually made up of five teenage boys and possibly the scientists who created their insanely powerful mobile suits (more on that later). The characters are cool but highly unbelievable (which was why they were so awesome). Many of them are one-dimensional, some just plain bland. Some are so superhuman that there is no way the person is actually human anymore. The Gundams are just absurdly powerful, I remember one line from the movie saying that each take 150(?!) mobile suits. Oh, did I mention they killed NOBODY in that battle? Being able to destroy THAT many mobile suits with ENOUGH precision so that the mobile suit doesn't explode AND the ejection system doesn't malfunction is rather ludicrous.

However, if there's one thing that done right, it's the music and the animation. The music is great, even now I still sometimes like to hear it (it's really catchy late 80's/early 90's music!). The animation may be old, and some people may disregard it for its age, but there's no real problem besides the styling being a little outdated. Oh, and nobody has COMPLETELY ridiculous figures like some other anime series (I'm talking about you, Sumeragi!). Overall, it was a great way to give people a taste of how awesome Gundam can be, but due to its crazily unrealistic plots and characters, I'm sure some of the more mature audiences will find it a bit... lacking.

This is really one of the best Gundam series I've seen. The charters were well made and you never really knew what to expects from them. There were plenty of surprises that were well surprising. The gundams in this series are also one of my favorites in the Gundam universe. The music was pretty good and I liked most of them although most did set the mood for what was going on I guess it's still a bit old to give off the sense that music does now for a certain mood. The only thing was the graphics maybe its just be I don't have an anime membership but it did seem a bit old and not as refined so I hope in the future that there's going to be a remake with better graphics. Overall this was a great series and I hope that Crunchyroll will get it back again in the future.

Gundam Wing was my favorite series back when it appeared on Cartoon Network's "Toonami" lineup. Characters are likable, in some cases (Relena) annoying, and the animation is pure Sunrise. You know what you're gonna get for this era, and that's not bad. Story? Typical Gundam war-fare, where we're told how terrible war is, and so forth. The Gundams themselves are awesome of course, with the best suits coming later in the series. My only complaint with this series is the constant "War is bad!" mantra, we get it, stop hammering us with it! Overall, I'd rate it a must see, but it fails to reach "BEST....GUNDAM....EVER!!!" status in my book. *cough* SEED *cough* You won't be disappointed.

When this series first came to America, many many years ago.

This is the series that allowed the children to continue watching giant Robots battling for World Peace and the like.
This was one of the greatest Gundam series ever created probably because it had childhood influences.

Looking back at this series now, not only brought nostalgic feelings but just to remember one of the original storyline the Gundam series had. It was about peace with many many people who had lost hope to strive for "peace."

The animation was one of the best, however, in this year 2010, the animation could be retouched but it isn't horrible that the series will need to be thrown away. IT gives you the retro feeling or what most people are doing at the moment, "Throw Back." The music used within the series is absolutely one of the best and the original character design, and attitude was an innovation to the new characters we have in Anime.

This series was and will be one of the best Gundam series ever, as Gundam UC is continuing the animation style, this will continue to live on.

This was the first Gundam series I saw in US. Compared to the other cartoons on TV at the time, this was a beacon of hope that reignited my love of mecha anime (as well as anime in general). The plot is intricate and sophisticated (at least for teens and pre-teens). There is that teenage angst that all main characters imbues that I could relate to (and subsequently can no longer relate to). The robots were "cool" and powerful.

However, as I mature and become more aware of the world, I found it to be more disconnected with reality than what my first impression told me (the first three times I watched all 50 episodes, the third time I watched it in one weekend). Looking back, I see the characters are lack perspective and has a tendency to view the world through a slit, self pitying and generally filled with teenage angst (which is no longer something I can connect to). The Gundams are not so much cool as stupidly powerful to the point where it is no longer interesting. The political factions are down right comical in their goals. Mainly it's the Gundams. I prefer a more realistic war where machines aren't god like and the main characters aren't inept fools with magical weapons. Gundam 08th MS Team and 0080 comes to mind. I only hope the Gundam universe will eventually return to that gold era.

Believe it or not guys this is the first Gundam series I've ever watched. These giant robots were so enticing as I was growing up.
The story line for any Gundam was always incredible, and Gundam Wing is a great place to start. Let the story take you in and watch for hours, no one will look at you weird, just tell them its "Gundam flipping Wing", and they will understand. Having a mixture of both space and Earth battles the fighting turns out to be thrilling. The characters can be both lovable and hate able, depending on which side you root for. The animation is so-so compared to newer animes of today, but this also adds to the effect of making it one of the best series.
