Having a love/comedy anime isn't anything special since we get a good number of it every season. However, there is an element of surprise unique to this series. Think of other animes that are in the same genre as this one - for instance, say I love you or kimi ni todoke. Difference between these series and my little monster is that my little monster has more extreme development in plot, growth of character's personality and relationships.
Take a look at the first episode. You'll get the feeling that things have escalated so quickly as if you saw the entire series in 20 minutes. In contrast to kimi ni todoke, which is a love anime famous for its platonic atmosphere with slowly but steadily growing love, this series will only allow main characters to throw "fast balls" at each other. Their feelings are so straight forward that they don't really understand about themselves even after expressing it. We often hear phrases like "I like you, as in sexual way." Such attitude is what drives each character to reflect on themselves and show us more lively traits and developments.
Another point that I find attractive about these series is that it pays a good amount of attention to the side characters. This is often difficult in a love story that has a definite, setup relationship between two main characters as all the attention is concentrated at that point. Say I love you would be an example of this case. We don't get to see as much of side characters as a specific episode about them passes by. But my little monster always keeps those characters along with the "main" relationship and develops along with the plot. So another applaud for this.
TL;DR
1) This series is unique as a love story since it isn't as "indirect" in relationships
2) It doesn't leave the side characters in dust.
3) It's a great show. Even compared to all the other recent/old animes of its genre.
Tried to not spoil it as much as possible. And sorry for my bad english.
