I loved this show when it first started up. I guess that was the original Naruto. Interesting characters, interesting world, and really fun fights. Then it got the same disease most anime's get when they're running concurrent with a manga: "uh-oh, we caught up with the manga. I guess we'll do some filler episodes." BLEHH! I find the filler episodes repulsive. And I'm extremely angry with the creators. It is irresponsible to do what they've done: they started a good story, got me invested, and them milked it till there was nothing but blood and ashes coming out of the udders, then tried to milk it some more. The story is needlessly drawn out with pointless power creep and pointless battles.
"Oh, look, a new enemy, hah, I can beat you with my new powers"
"No, I'm even more powerful than you thought"
"Haha, but I'm ALSO even more powerful."
"But now I'm even MORE powerful"
"Oh god just shoot me now"
"NO! I will repeat this formula for the next fifty thousand episodes"
"WAAAAAAAA my level of bordom and irritation, IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!1"
"Blarg one of us is finally defeated."
"Ok, now lets become best friends because your really just misunderstood, as explained in the obligatory series of flashbacks before your final power up."
Vomit.
So. Starts off with interesting characters, cool power system, fun fights, even a pretty good story, and very good animation. Makes you invested in it, makes you want to know how it will all shake out in the end.
Then holds you down and poops in your mouth.
Also often even the non-filler episodes are filled with filler as they desperately try to not catch up to the manga so quickly.
If you want a tight story, go somewhere else.
If you've got 300 hours to burn, come here.
I got fed up and switched to the manga, which I check a few times a year to see if the dude has finished it yet. It's still horribly cliche'd and repetitive. But no filler at least. Just cliche'd fight after cliche'd fight. Very well drawn. And somehow, despite it all, I still check in occasionally to see if there's an ending. If that isn't an endorsement for the compelling story, I don't know what is.
In summative statement: A few nuggets of gold so awesome that your willing to eat the pile of excrement they are incased in to get to them.
If I could go back in time, I would warn myself emphatically to never read or watch any of it. That it would be like a horrible drug. Meth maybe. So addictive that, despite the obvious serious negative effects it has on you, you just can't stop.
