Occult Academy, first impressions, Episode 1
The story opens at the school commonly known as the Occult Academy in 1999, where the Dean/Principle/Headmaster has just died. He founded the school to help train people in non-standard modes of reality ranging from magic and astrology through telekinesis and UFOs. His daughter, Maya, arrives late for the funeral and in an angry frame of mind. When her father's spirit-inhabited corpse gets out of ...

Scooby-doo on steroids - but where's the dog?
What would the Mystery Machine have looked like if Daphne had been in charge? Now we know -- Occult Academy gives us an homage that goes beyond the original.

You can tell that the animators and writers are aware of the relationship: cowardly Bun-mei is Shaggy, rich, powerful Maya is Daphne, Kozue ("megane") is Velma...Does that mean Ami is Freddie? But Occult Academy shows us the other side of ...

My Impression/Opinion of Show and Reviews
So I've been reading over a lot of the reviews , and it seems the majority of the people who's problems consist around the idea of "lacking anything occult" really don't have an understanding of what the "Occult" is. Just quick FYI to those who think that the "Occult" is strictly Magical Workings. It's not , Occult is a word for hidden , or secret and refers to all aspects of Science as well as ...

Too high an expectation for something original
A strange mix of the supernatural and futuristic, despite its generic look there's nothing quite like it. The characters (both main and minor) were surprising and original from beginning to end, and didn't come across as shallow without devoting entire episodes to their personalities. All the storyline twists were unexpected, but lacking in something. Overall, it was a new direction than the ...

    Alas, so much potential
The first episode really hooked me. But then the show wandered around a lot before getting close to its end at which point it seemed to be like...

"Oh shoot, the show is ending soon isn't it? We'd better wrap it up, fast!"

I wanted to like it a lot, but it just felt rushed. And too much filler, especially for a short series. They could have easily gotten away with 6 episodes.

    As for ...

There's a lot of storytlelling in 13 episodes
I really enjoyed Occult Academy. I was sorry to see it end. The story is well crafted and told. The characters are enjoyable more or less and developed. There are animes with double the episodes that don't tell a story as well.

    occult academy stuff
    I really loved this series!!

the music was all right. it went with the anime really well but it could've had a bit more dramatic soundtrack...in my opinion...

the storyline was a bit weak at the beginning. I mean, there was a bunch of occult stuff happening which made me think that the writers were just throwing random stories into it to make the anime a bit longer. good sense of humor, ...

Slow to start, but finishes extremely strong
Occult Academy didn't grab me at first, since most of the first half of its episodes were seemingly unconnected and full of typical tsundere craziness. However, after about 5-6 episodes, the story opened up and it began to focus less on the supernatural aspect of the series and more on the relationship between Maya and Fumiaki. As much as I loved the references to Chupacabra, "Greys" and Time ...

Fantastic character development thrown in with a couple good side characters, but ultimately packaged with a bit of a sloppy story and an atrocious ending.
A story about a school that studies spirits, monsters, and aliens! This should be good right? Right.. Well, it depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a design that's relatively cool, forget it. The designs in this anime aren't very interesting and the action is also mediocre, but I don't feel like action was one of the things they focused on too much. It was more of a story ...
