Being a magical girl has it's price
When you first see the poster and description of this show, your first thought is "Please no more cutesyness and little girls giggling and doing silly little girl things!". After I had read a review of the Anime detailing what happened in Episode 3, I figured I would check it out. It started off interesting, but once I got to episode 3 I was hooked and the rest of the episodes kept getting ...

    First impression is a lie
Before starting this I would like to make it clear that this would be my first review here on CR so I'm not sure how well this turns out. I will try my best to keep this spoiler free, short and bias as possible.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica has been out for roughly over a year now in Japan and was recently licensed by Aniplex USA. It is a short 12 episode Magical Girl series that tells the story ...

Let's just break, break, break this whole rotten world to dust.
It was once said that Neon Genesis Evangelion was to giant robot anime what Twin Peaks was to cop dramas. I think it would be appropriate to make the same comparison for Madoka Magica and the mahou shoujo genre.

Madoka Magica plays upon typical notions and stereotypes of what is good and what is evil, and lures the viewer into a slam of the cold reality of all things. Though the story is seldom ...

This is one of my favorite animes of all time!
Its hard to review this anime without giving away the shocking parts of it, but I will say this; Once you watch episode 3, you will realize this is no ordinary magical girl series. The first few episodes, the OP and even the commercials all make this show out to be the typical, overly cute magical girl thing, but it isn't. All I wanted when I started watching this was a sweet, fun anime for little ...

Under This Colorful Art Style Lies A Dark Story
Puella Magi Madoka Magica isn't exactly what it may seem to be. At first glance you may think this is a stereotypical magical girl story with no real plot. But in reality, this the best magical girl story ever told with an extremely dark plot. Madoka hides its darkness with bright and colorful scenes, but once you're deep enough into the story you start to realize how crazy this anime really is. ...

One of the Best Animes Ever Produced
Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a dark and profound story with a cutesy exterior. It not only holds up to multiple viewings, but is enhanced through them.

The story is, on its surface, a story about two girls being given the chance to become magical girls and grant their deepest wishes. It turns into something much more.

I have watched this series approximately four times through, and ...

    Completely Out of the Blue
Prior to this show I had never attentively watched a magical girl anime, and I was quite frightened just diving into this show blind - not having read anything prior. What a decision it was to just dive in head-long, doing my best to remove any preconceived notion of what I was doing. Actually - telling my brother that I was trying it out gave the exact response I had expected: "...Really?" ...

    We need more of this
This is by all standards a magical girl show. HOWEVER, it does this by completely reworking the idea of a magical girl and turning what you would expect to be a cute, light hearted show, into a dark, thrilling, and heart twisting tale.

This show is the best in the magical girl genre, and I can say this with confidence even though I haven't seen other magical girl themed shows. Simply because ...

    Funny, Depressing, and cute.
This anime has everything, from beautiful artwork to an amazing plot line to very well developed characters, and last but not least very funny moments. I feel like they put a lot of thought into this, and its very much tragic but fun. Finally a series that isn't afraid to kill off main characters mid-series. It has a nice touch of its drama, and some of it seems a bit too far for me at times, but ...

Don't be fooled by 1st impressions
Madoka is a tale that starts off like it should be aimed at mainstream 8-12 year old girls, but it turns into so much more. It is a story of darkness that gets a more and more dark with a seemingly never ending depth. Until the end, where a light that shines of more than ten thousand lumens over comes the blackened pit it preceded.

I would say that the more mature you are and still able to ...
