Being a magical girl has it's price
When you first see the poster and description of this show, your first thought is "Please no more cutesyness and little girls giggling and doing silly little girl things!". After I had read a review of the Anime detailing what happened in Episode 3, I figured I would check it out. It started off interesting, but once I got to episode 3 I was hooked and the rest of the episodes kept getting ...

    First impression is a lie
Before starting this I would like to make it clear that this would be my first review here on CR so I'm not sure how well this turns out. I will try my best to keep this spoiler free, short and bias as possible.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica has been out for roughly over a year now in Japan and was recently licensed by Aniplex USA. It is a short 12 episode Magical Girl series that tells the story ...

  • Puella Review ~ImperfectAnge1
This anime was recommended to me by a friend and if it werent for her, I would have never discovered this anime. None of my other friends know about this anime either and later I found out that that was pretty crazy!

My first impressions were that this anime would be cutesy, girly, boring and superhero-ey like. Almost like Shugo Chara or Pretty Cure. To my surprise, it had that but something ...

  • Definitely Worth Watching
My friend recommended this to me as a very different kind of magical girl show. When I started it I wasn't so sure, but as I continued to watch I was surprised by how much it was darker than I expected (for a magical girl anime). I loved the characters and how they rounded themselves out, and the style of art used in the witch labyrinths. The story was done very well for a small amount of ...

  • Oh my sweet baby Madoka...
    Where to begin....

Uhhh so yeah... this was one of the best animes I have EVER watched, short but touching, and all around amazing. I loved it so much, I mean, I haven't seen many animes, (and my first anime was... sigh Hetalia) but oh my god it was great.

In the beginning it is all cute and girly and sweet, and everyone is so ^_^.
But then... episode 3.... Prepare your feels for this ...

Waste of time. Why did I watch this?
This anime is highly over rated. I never write reviews, but I felt it was necessary this time. I dont understand the hype. I kept waiting for something to happen that was extraordinary because of all the rave reviews, but instead it was predictable and boring. In the end, the protagonist is just a whiny cry baby who is overly optimistic. Its not that dark. Not that inventive. The art is the only ...

  • The Biggest Promo-Image Lie in Anime History
    More like "Sadoka Tragica."

When I'm in the middle of projects, particularly in the more stressful periods of the process, I like to take time out to watch some anime that doesn't require too much attention and brain power on my part. This is usually when I fall back on my anime-roots of magical girls such as Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura. Both are fantastic shows which you don't need to ...

  • So much more than just a "magical girl" anime
This anime is so much more than just a magical girl anime. It is so much deeper and darker, and tugs at your heartstrings by weaving together messages about friendship and sacrifice. The art, while perhaps strange at first, does a phenomenal job conveying the despair that the magical girls feel while fighting witches. On top of that, each character is dynamic, and grows tremendously as the story ...

  • An excellent anime with a deep story.
I found this anime to be quite fantastic, however the story is a little messed up when you think about it. However, I do recommend it to be seen at least once. As with most anime though, the ending is not exactly satisfactory and it cuts off in a way I didn't like, but I suppose it's not always sunshine and rainbows.

  • The Darker Side of Magical Girls
This is a great anime. Instead of the normal cutesy magical girl anime this one takes a very dark turn, but still gives a satisfying ending. I'm trying to not give too much away so I'll just leave it at who I'd recommend it for. Don't watch this if your expecting cutesy, watch it if you like darker anime with a lot of mystery and intrigue.
