I watched this series years ago because it was highly-rated and people said it was dark and revolutionary for the genre. I came back recently for a second viewing and was just as impressed the second time.

I'm not even sure I've watched another anime in the magical girl genre. So I love this series on its own merits, not because it's 'different.' In an era where young people are generally ...

  • Late in the Game, but really enjoyed
I was very very very...late jumping onto the Madoka Magica train, but I was pleasantly surprised.

It was not at all what I was expecting, and I imagine that is what the original creator was going for. Everyone has their expectations of what a magical girl show should be. It took those concepts and turned it on its head. I really liked it.

  • Nice animation, "déjà vu" plot
This anime has a very interesting animation style. It mixes cartoonish backgrownds with standard anime characters, which is highly enjoyable. Plus, its characters have a pretty design. The soundtrack, composed by Yuki Kahiura is not one of her best works, but still good. The main problem about this series is the simplistic and not-so-original plot. Most of the episodes are incredibly slow, with ...

  • That's not what I expected!
This show was a huge shocker. I don't think I've ever been in such shock watching an anime before this one. I love magical girls so I was expecting cutesy high schoolers saving the world from darkness in cute dresses....but madoka magica took it took a whole new level. The show is deep, beautiful, and emotional. And be prepared....its very dark.

  • Action-packed and emotional
While the odd art work in many seems was a bit disturbing, I eventually got over it.
This series is filled with action and emotion.
The show’s a shocker, and not at all what I expected.
One actually cares about the characters. I highly recommend it, plus it’s only 12 episodes.

  • Madoka Magica: The Surface is Only the Beginning
I had always heard of this animation as being phenomenal, so I decided to finally explore its world despite its magical girl exterior.

...nothing could have prepared me for the absolute turbulence that was to come. The story is far darker than one would expect, and manages to enrapture a solid variety of characters and a very twisted and complex plot into 12 solid episodes. Ideas of loyalty, ...

For now I have nothing to say but I remember things when I was young and this reminded me of what... How do I put this in words? For now I have little to say. Madoka Magica is a wonderful watch. I'll leave you with this, is it wrong to be without emotion?

  • An Inventive and Thrilling Series
I really enjoyed this series! The first three episodes hard to get to, but after that it starts getting into the meat of this series. It has an intresting premise, which is delved into as the the series progresses. You learn what it truly means to be a magical girl!

  • The Best Magical Girl Anime
This is my second time watching this series, because you need to watch it at least twice to truly understand and appreciate it. PMMM is a beautiful show that covers dark topics, with a light and refreshing art style to boot. I love how it draws in unsuspecting people with its cutesy appearance. But as with most things, things aren't always what they seem. I've watched anime for many, many years, ...
