Some of those scenes that played through the end credits make me wary of what's to come, but hopefully the plot twists won't be too cliche. Guess it's time to keep watching Saki: Side A now. ^^

The nationals are the best. Now the Saki manga 9 is out, It´s cool to see again all the characters from this season. The other three schools are supporting and helping Kiyosumi during and before the nationals. They´re all friends.

As fas as I´ve read, looks like "Saki Episode of side-A". Take place at the same time as the main series. The only point that joins both series is both main characters know Haramura Nodoka and want to beat someone with the surname Miyanaga.

The manga was first, but this anime started about the same time the automatic tables came out. Table makers would want to promote the game as 'family friendly' and 'cool.' If they stopped backing it, no production investment = no anime.
