Saki

Intro: I'm usually a very picky person when it comes to anime. Out of the series that I've started this is the only one that has managed to not only hold my attention but made me want to buy a membership so I wouldn't have to wait for the new episodes. [I've been watching since before the membership deal]

Storyline: This anime is fantastic because unlike normal slice-of-life animes this one gives you a glimpse into the lives of numerous characters rather than someone placed in for just one episode. But I digress. This anime follows the life of a girl named Saki Miyanaga who was forced into joining the Mahjong club by her friend Suga. She claims to hate Mahjong because of the punishment she recieved from her family when she used to play and keeps her score at an even plus minus zero every game. A feat that even the pros have difficulty accomplishing. Impressed by her skills, Nodoka Haramura [A fellow first year and previous middle school Mahjong champion] convinces her to join and the two set a goal to make it to the Nationals together.

Characters:The fact that the character list is so extensive is another reason why I love this anime so much. The main characters are the members of the Kiyosumi High School Mahjong club and include, Saki, Nodoka, Yuuki, Mako, Hisa and Suga but the characters extend to Mahjong Club members of different schools including Ryuumonbuchi and Tsugara and each character possessing specific skills and playing styles. Such as Momoko from Tsugara Academy has the ability to make her discards invisible to most players. Hisa from Kiyosumi plays best when she is at a disadvantage, and Ryuumonbuchi's Koromo has beaten even a pro player. This anime does have lots of implied shoujo-ai. Which means girl love. More than friends, but not really dating or kissing. Yuri means lesbian like in the anime Kanamemo [name drop] which Saki isn't, but it's heavily implied.

Music and Animation Both were beautifully done. Wonderfully drawn and fun characters as well as pleasing music that flows beautifully throughout each episodes including two amazing openings and three endings. The third being my favorite. Although, the special ending shown at the end of episode 25 left me hungry for more and ready for the second season.

Overall: In conclusion I found the anime very good. Fantastic characters, good plot, amazing music and just beautifully done.
I was so blown away by this anime I'm going to try and learn how to play Riichi style Mahjong. 4/5

I've been watching my father, uncles and cousins play Mahjong ever since I was little.
Understanding the terminology a bit (BORDERLINE), I was able to follow Saki's story.
This series is very entertaining and not like any other. There is a little spice of yuri I love in shows.

The story is well, about girls (and an unfortunate caddy boy) in a Mahjong club at their school. They want to get to the nationals and compete for their own personal reasons. Some just may want to win.
Delve into and see how Saki solves her plus-minus problem, and how Nodoka entrances without using just her figure.
The music is cute sounding (op, ed) and usually fit the situation.
Characters are good and original, and we even have a cute little Tsundere Yuuki (voiced by Kugimiya Rie, what a surprise) to complete the package.
Animation-wise, well, the characters (girls) are too shiny...

Done ranting. You might want to watch this if you like Mahjong, yuri, or just a cute story.

The anime is not that bad. I have to say it is an overall good anime I thought it was a boring anime(no offense) since its going to be mahjong. I mean, will lots of people get interested with this anime since not all of us know the game, mahjong. Well, that's what I thought at first. Who knew that even if I didn't understand the game, I'll get so excited over the anime. The plot, storyline and the anime itself is good. That's what I think of it anyway. To know yourself, you better watch the anime :))

Though Saki has not yet finished its first season its a great watch and i recommend it to any one looking for a casual watch. The characters developments as both individuals and friends is truly a fun experience. Now I must say, I normally watch sci-fi anime or animes that tend to be slightly violent. With that in mind i still consider this one of the best anime's I've watched. The Mahjong battles are crafted so they always feel intense and never feel like filler. Its a good anime to watch, either after you finish your next series or whilst your waiting for new eps to be released its a good anime for all casual occasions.

This anime is about mohjong; a game so confusing no one gets how to play it, but in the anime they make you wanna learn :[] So basiclly its about all girls and one guy who isn't important. Saki the main character pawns at Mohjong and want to get to nationals to see her sister, whom is questionable. . . anyways this anime makes Mohjong like so special effects stuff and it looks so cool >o< If you want an actionpacked pretty cool anime lol you should watch this, plus they're are really a lot of unique characters as the story progresses.
