School Days

For the first part of this anime, the story pans out as your regular high school romance anime. A boy likes a girl and soon after, a love triangle is formed. The feud gets settled rather quickly. Be noted, while I try to avoid offering spoilers, I won't deny some of what I say next is spoilerish and for this series, I don't really care. After this, the anime gets a little darker, but for the most part just gets nastier. Soon its about a main character who can't keep his hormones in check as he has sex with every girl out there. He really is one of the worst, if not the worst main protagonist of any anime out there. On top of this, all the women feel the need to gang up on one of the girls from the feud and make her feel like crap. In the end, the anime is just a heartless experience that will make you feel rather bad or at least unsatisfied. Still, despite being a bad experience, I give it props for doing something different and having an interesting ending, even though that different something wasn't very good.

Makoto Makoto Makoto... I can certainly relate to this young man... I was doing a lot worse in my teen years... Running around with plenty girls and it was fun... I've left trails of broken hearts and got exactly what i deserved... I've hurt girls just like Katsura just because i wasn't thinking with the head on my shoulders too...

Poor Katsura though :/ i honestly felt bad for the girl... She started to love Makoto and he just played her for a fool just for some booty... from that group of girls bullying her ,to sekai betraying her, to Makoto breaking up with her wayyyyyy later... he could have saved her a lot of pain... it was sooooo eff'd up in my eyes...

But.....


The most insane part of this anime would definitely have to be the ending... Omfg ... I did not see that coming at all... if you haven't watched this show... OMFG you missed out!!!!!!!!! CRAZY!!!!!!!!

OPINION!!!!!

A huge fan of the slice of life , romance anime's.....but this one.......this "anime" was a pain for me to watch. the main protagonist makoto was a huge prick to all the girls and the girls (except for one) were not helping his case.
he would change who he liked on a dime depending on who would give up a little something something. and almost every girl in the show he would sleep with in one point of time. I was eager to watch this anime at first.......liked the first episode....and that was all. at the very end of the anime I was in tears of how much makoto became a soulless a$$.....even after "impregnating" one of the main female characters....he would STILL be with another girl that would give him a good time even while his "girlfriend?" was watching.

100% honest here but the only enjoyable part in this entire series for me was when they finally smarted up and murdered him. Placing this anime on the opposite of my top anime to watch in your life time.

This anime review would be longer if I actually found anything but the ending enjoyable.

Look at the posters for this show... happy school kids, smiling together... surely this is about some highschool romance, maybe some comedy love triangles happening. If that's what you were looking for when you watched this, you were probably shockingly disapointed.
This show had the most awful ending I've ever seen. The happy, smiling faces on the posters are a total lie when you see the contents of this series. I've never seen a story about a school so full of sluty girls and cheating guys. I watched the series all the way to the end, thinking there has to be some kind of happy ending to make up for this awful story... but there wasn't. Just a slow slide into insanity and murder for the main characters. it is a horrible story that left me literally sick to my stomach. It really is a shame though, since the animation was really pretty. By the end I felt nothing but disgust for nearly every character. Not a single one had any redeeming quality. If you love snuff films, watching people suffer and watching shows about people you find repulsive, this show is for you. Otherwise, save yourself the heartache. hint... the last episode ends with one girl disemboweled and the other girl hugging the main character's decapitated head while drifting away on a sailboat. Yeah, it's a spoiler, but I wish someone had spoiled it for me before I saw this trash. if there was a way to vote zero stars I would.

Most people are giving this anime reviews based on the way they liked it, but I feel they are missing the point entirely. Yes, the main "protagonist", Makoto, is a huge, uh, tool-to be put nicely. He does have sex with almost every girl in it. However, I feel that this anime was meant not just to be horrible and dark, but to show the true side of humanity. How uncaring we can be, and what truly lies deep in our souls. I would suggest watching this anime, but I warn you, the ending is not for the faint of heart...

Pros:
Engaging in a can't-look-away-train-wreck sort of deal, interesting story.

Cons:
Where do I even begin? Let's start with Makoto, the shy, innocent main character turned rapist and sex addict who is not only completely idiotic during interactions with the opposite sex, but is some kind of pheromone for women. What makes me the angriest about School Days is the complete and utter nonsense of Makoto being able to cheat with multiple girls when it's fairly obvious that all he cares about is sex! Nearly every girl is attracted to him due to some unknown plot device, and he manages to make the rounds without any guilt what so ever. Which brings me to my next con, the girls. Kotonoha, his girlfriend, is a neurotic wreck who blames Makoto's cheating on the girls, and even attempts to become more sexually active to keep him attracted after she found him and Sekai kissing. My feelings about Sekai are difficult to convey in non-vulgar words, but basically she begins to cheat with Makoto on the pretext of helping him practice for his future sexual encounters. The entire deal was absolutely ridiculous, and at the end when she went psychotic I felt that it was good at least that she was done putting up with it! Overall, the story was just so horrible not from a writing standpoint, but from a plot standpoint, and the characters were so infuriating that I can't give this anything above 1 star. If there was ever an anime where I wanted to punch nearly every character, it would be this one.

[spoilers everywhere]This anime was so wrong. I don't know how to explain it without going on a rant; therefore, I'll start at the good points.

Good Points:
It was defenetly original. This is not your "run-of-the-mill" love story. Don't be deceived by the happy cover photo or the romantic begining. The amount of actual romance is negligible at best. This is the darkest and most screwed up anime I have watched yet. It might just make you want to stay away from the opposite sex.

That is the end of the good points... now for the bulk, the bad points

Bad Points:
The characters are just messed up. Every character must be a few cards short of a deck because they were the craziest anime characters I have ever seen. The minor characters harass and alienate Katsura like she was less than trash. The supporting characters don't even notice half the demented events taking place around them. Not the main characters friends or anyone noticed what is wrong about every single girl in the school sleeping with one dude who technically has 2 girlfriends. Also, nobody gives 2 flying f***s about Katsura. After Makoto breaks up with her she is completely ignored by every one. Makoto's best friend then proceeds to sleep with her, manipulating her precariously placed feelings in her moment of weakness. Now onto the main characters. Sekai is horrible, selfish, and a completely craven idiot. She sets Makoto up then proceeds to seduce him. She lets Makoto cheat on Katsura with her because she a slight infatuation with him. She then acts all guilty and remorseful and doesn't make the slightest effort to tell Katsura (quietly and weakly saying," you should tell her" doesn't count). In general, her only purpose in this series was to adulterate Makoto and make him worse. Katsura, however, isn't always perfect. She has no backbone and can't even accept the fact Makoto is cheating on her. She then even forgives him and acts like nothing ever happened at all. Finally, we arrive at the big kahuna, Makoto. This self-centered, manipulative, aggressive, lying, craven sex maniac is the worst person in the world! Innocent at first, this villain progresses to sleep with every girl in the school, including his "girlfriend's" best friends. He is the quintessence of evil in teenage-romance from.
The logic. Not much to say about this other than "how does no one notice any of this or feel the slightest guilt?!" Not one person truly feels guilt for what they did. They cheat with Makoto, film others having intercourse then showing it to all the girls in the school, harassing an innocent and heartbroken girl, or the stuff that they do at the end, which I would feel bad for you readers of this lengthy review. Getting into this chain of events would only perpetuate this unending review.

In the end, all the pent-up rage I developed from watching this atrociously twisted anime greatly exhilarated the ending which is why i'm giving it two stars to be generous. It wasn't poorly done. I just despised the story and the characters combined with Makoto's punitive actions. Anyway, to all those who persevered through this review and tolerated my incessant ranting, I thank you. I appologise for the length and ending up going on a rant even though I tried specifically not to. I would give you a present and a hug if I could. Thank you for reading. I hope it was interesting or helpful.

This is supposed to be realism, actual life in high-school, according to some. I would have to disagree as both of former student and educator, even by today's standards of what "real" is.

I won't give away any spoilers, but I found myself feeling remorse for some of the characters the first quarter to half-way through, and wanting to see others in the series socially lynching themselves with their stupid, self-centered "player" behavior. By the 3rd quarter of the series I only pressed on to satisfy my curiosity of why and how others could appreciate this storyline. I can say that while I still have faith in humanity, I do know the type of world the dregs of society choose to accept and appreciate, and I want no part of it.

School Days is a show that the dregs can steep themselves in, and leave the rest of the world to enjoy life as it's really meant to be.
