    A poorly advertised mature anime
    Very very mild spoilers ahead.

The first thing I would like to say is that this anime really does not market itself well, from the image of 5 cutesy looking kids in school uniforms to the description absolutely nothing stands out as interesting or deserving of your time. Even worse, the audience who would most enjoy this (mature teenagers/adults) could even be put off by the fact its classed as ...

  • One of my recent favorites
I'll keep the review short, sweet and simple. The story was decently complex without being the type that you have to watch a few times to understand what's going on. Enough intrigue to keep you guessing, but not so much that you're scratching your head. Mostly dialogue driven, so most action junkies may not fully appreciate it, but despite being a bit of an action junkie myself, I found myself ...

Psychic Kids + Overbearing Future Feudal Society + Naked Mole Rats
Unique Concept + Character and World Development + Great Visuals + Creepy Creepy Creepy

If it feels like it's starting out as a standard 'kids go to weird school to learn psychic abilities', it grows out into sooooo much more, it gets epic in scale, immensely sad and also horribly creepy. Whatever your reservations, you ...

    Truly a great anime.
This anime is one of the best anime or show in general I have ever watched. The plot development, character development, setting, background, animation, etc. were all top notch. The maturity of the subjects in this show are thought provoking and leave you thinking long after you finished watching an episode. The tragedies that occur, I am not ashamed to admit, made me cry. I do not know why this ...

    A great, but heart-wrenching story
This show has an incredible plot and very detailed world building. Characters are believable and the situations they end up in draw you in completely. The music is incredible and the art, character designs, and clothing designs are top-notch. There's a couple episodes with spotty animation, but the vast majority is very consistent.

At times, it is very difficult to watch, any one with a strong ...

    One of the best animes
Someone on crunchyroll suggested this anime in the comments of Sword Art Online. Wow, was I in for a surprise. I enjoyed SAO (at least the first half) so I came to this anime expecting something similar. This was way, WAY better than I expected. I don't know how I have never heard of this before. It's one of the best animes I've ever seen, if not THE best. I do have an affinity for dystopian ...

  • Beautiful, Deep, Thought-provoking, Memorable.
Amongst many other anime I've been watching recently, Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World) is memorable in the most unique of ways - it goes from portraying pure aesthetic, to a critique on society in many ways. This anime adaptation of Yusuke Kishi's novel is great - utilising aesthetics to portray a highly creative view of the future, unique from any I've seen. Characters are real in ...

  • An imaginative take on slavery
I will start off by saying that this anime can seriously be really scary sometimes, but usually it's only just enough that it's not so bad.

That said, I love this take on a post-apocalyptic dsytopian future.

  • Not your typical post apocalyptic show
I love things set in the future, especially post apocalyptic settings, but it's easy for them to descend into a sea of "evil big brother" and "savior children" tropes. Shin Sekai Yori presents a much more morally ambiguous (and far more interesting) version of the future.

Brilliant piece of anime which doesn't have nearly a large enough audience.
    **potential spoilers**

This is one of the best anime I have seen in some time.
A bleak and harrowing tale of a 'sci-fi' future that seems more human than that.
    The score throughout is excellent.
    The animation is beautiful.
The characters are all very engrossing.
Sure, it can be a bit hard to follow at times, because there 'seem' to be gaps, but that's entirely the point, as it keeps you ...
