Make no mistakes, this is no romance, but a psychological thriller.
Like many others have written, I too was put off by the cover and description, and even the first couple minutes of the anime. Boy was I wrong. Four episodes in and you can see the seeds of darkness as they first begin to grow, and once you've progressed to the current point of the anime (ep 19), those seeds have fully grown. The anime has taken on a terrifyingly dark atmosphere.

    The ...

    Something like "The Giver"
At first glance the characters are weak, the story is confusing. I hated the series at first but I slowly found my self drawn in by its similarity to "The Giver". Their societies were the same in the way they both witheld what was going on from the people in the village, and they both had a system to eliminate their unwanted and imperfect humans. I suggest to keep watching, if you have the ...

    Beautiful and intriguing
This is not for everybody, especially those who want to think critically about what they are watching. I think it is so fascinating. The soundtrack and animation is amazing, a real work of art. Everything in the anime seems crucial to explaining this world they live in. I agree that it doesn't market itself well with being mature and psychological. Even though their society is so ...

    Now THIS is interesting!
This series has some of the best artwork and animation that I've seen in a long time, combined with an interesting story with great characterization along with great voice acting from newcomer Risa Taneda as well as the ever popular Kana Hanazawa. Shin Sekai Yori is a breath of fresh air for those looking for a truly original series!

    One of the best animes
Someone on crunchyroll suggested this anime in the comments of Sword Art Online. Wow, was I in for a surprise. I enjoyed SAO (at least the first half) so I came to this anime expecting something similar. This was way, WAY better than I expected. I don't know how I have never heard of this before. It's one of the best animes I've ever seen, if not THE best. I do have an affinity for dystopian ...

    Beautiful, Deep, Thought-provoking, Memorable.
Amongst many other anime I've been watching recently, Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World) is memorable in the most unique of ways - it goes from portraying pure aesthetic, to a critique on society in many ways. This anime adaptation of Yusuke Kishi's novel is great - utilising aesthetics to portray a highly creative view of the future, unique from any I've seen. Characters are real in ...

Hits you right in the feels
This anime is amazing. It starts off slow and lures you in with some slice-of-life esque episodes. Occasionally there might be something that seems weird, but this is a show about kids learning to use their telekinetic powers so maybe it's only strange from your point of view. As the story progresses and develops you realize that you were right, there is something profundly disturbing about this ...

    Very provoking anime
It has been a while since I have watched an anime that made me step back and think about things; about how we treat the world and others in it. In the beginning of this anime I felt the vibe that it was going to be dark and twisted (Monster, When Sea Gulls Cry, Higurashi are some of the animes that I thought it was going to be similiar to), but by the end I find that it was more truly a piece of ...

    An unearthly must watch!
The main picture, which is the fist impression of the show, presents it as more of a happy school life anime however it is much darker then that. The beginning is sets the mood of the series perfectly.

    Plot
The plot line is unique. The plot follows a group of friends with special powers in a mysterious village thats hiding a secret. A shadow of a cat also appears throughout the ...

    jaw-dropping amazing
This is probably one of the underrated shows that I wish more people would acknowledge. The plot is definitely 1 of a kind and, unlike other shows, by the end you kind of question what was truly right or wrong. My only problems were that the beginning took a while to roll in and episode 7 (or 8? I forget) was quite surprising and some of the stuff was somewhat unnecessary. I've heard that it makes ...
