Make no mistakes, this is no romance, but a psychological thriller.
Like many others have written, I too was put off by the cover and description, and even the first couple minutes of the anime. Boy was I wrong. Four episodes in and you can see the seeds of darkness as they first begin to grow, and once you've progressed to the current point of the anime (ep 19), those seeds have fully grown. The anime has taken on a terrifyingly dark atmosphere.

    The ...

    Something like "The Giver"
At first glance the characters are weak, the story is confusing. I hated the series at first but I slowly found my self drawn in by its similarity to "The Giver". Their societies were the same in the way they both witheld what was going on from the people in the village, and they both had a system to eliminate their unwanted and imperfect humans. I suggest to keep watching, if you have the ...

    Beautiful and intriguing
This is not for everybody, especially those who want to think critically about what they are watching. I think it is so fascinating. The soundtrack and animation is amazing, a real work of art. Everything in the anime seems crucial to explaining this world they live in. I agree that it doesn't market itself well with being mature and psychological. Even though their society is so ...

    Now THIS is interesting!
This series has some of the best artwork and animation that I've seen in a long time, combined with an interesting story with great characterization along with great voice acting from newcomer Risa Taneda as well as the ever popular Kana Hanazawa. Shin Sekai Yori is a breath of fresh air for those looking for a truly original series!

young psychics learning about the world they live in
This story was not really what I expected when I started, but I mean that in a very good way. As stated in my review title, we follow a group of young kids from the future who are enrolled in a school for psychics. Similar to the characters at this age, we are naive about the actual conditions of the world they live in. As they grow, they slowly learn about this world that has somewhat been hidden ...

    A Brilliantly Poignant Anime
Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World) is a wonderful anime.

The animation and atmosphere are both stunning, and the characters are moving. Some people might be put off by how slow the pacing is at times, but I loved how well it sets up the world.
This is a great anime that most people should consider watching, but be prepared to delve into the dark shadows of humanity if you do, as this is no ...

An Intense and Deeply Emotional Show
This is one of those shows I will never watch again. It is brutal, but also amazing. It many ways it reminded me of reading The Hunger Games (which I will also never do again). It is the kind of series you will keep thinking about for a long, long time.

Basically, it is dark science fiction set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. But that might sound cliche, and doesn't do the series ...

Very interesting and dark at times
i went into this show kinda not expecting much because i had never really heard anything about it, never seen clips or people mention it. but its rated pretty high on MAL and it was on sale on rightstuf and i noticed it was a 2 cour series so i figured i give it a shot. i gotta say the first opening scene was VERY cool, and then... it shows these kids. it definitely throws you off and takes a ...

    Amazing science fiction
If you're looking for an anime with complex themes, watch this. If you're looking for one with interesting stylistic and directorial choices that work most of the time, watch this. If you're looking for an anime that's got tension that drags you from one episode to the next, watch this. This is great animated sf.

What An Original Work Of Art!
This is by far the best anime I have ever seen. This is definitely a dramatic anime, with a hint of action, romance, and horror thrown in there, but is not at all comedic in any way. Overall It's a very complete and deep anime. One thing I really like about this anime is that we get to watch these children grow up. I highly recommend this anime and I know it can get a bit slow at parts, but give ...
