Make no mistakes, this is no romance, but a psychological thriller.
Like many others have written, I too was put off by the cover and description, and even the first couple minutes of the anime. Boy was I wrong. Four episodes in and you can see the seeds of darkness as they first begin to grow, and once you've progressed to the current point of the anime (ep 19), those seeds have fully grown. The anime has taken on a terrifyingly dark atmosphere.

    The ...

    Something like "The Giver"
At first glance the characters are weak, the story is confusing. I hated the series at first but I slowly found my self drawn in by its similarity to "The Giver". Their societies were the same in the way they both witheld what was going on from the people in the village, and they both had a system to eliminate their unwanted and imperfect humans. I suggest to keep watching, if you have the ...

    Beautiful and intriguing
This is not for everybody, especially those who want to think critically about what they are watching. I think it is so fascinating. The soundtrack and animation is amazing, a real work of art. Everything in the anime seems crucial to explaining this world they live in. I agree that it doesn't market itself well with being mature and psychological. Even though their society is so ...

    Now THIS is interesting!
This series has some of the best artwork and animation that I've seen in a long time, combined with an interesting story with great characterization along with great voice acting from newcomer Risa Taneda as well as the ever popular Kana Hanazawa. Shin Sekai Yori is a breath of fresh air for those looking for a truly original series!

    An Absolute Masterpiece
One of the most enthralling anime I've ever seen, and quite possibly the best. I put off watching this for so long because of it's synopsis on every site describing it poorly as a show geared towards young kids, and it's cover isn't very telling. But let me tell you, this is a gripping, adult tale that will take you places.

This isn't just about kids with telekinesis, this is an incredibly ...

    For Mature Audiences
I don't normally write reviews. In fact, this is my first on CR.
This anime is just that good.

HOWEVER! If you are not mature - and I don't mean in the physical sense, but rather a psychological sense... you will probably not enjoy it all. I initially watched this at another site, and for a stretch of episodes the comments contained a fair bit of homophobia (there's a bit of yaoi and yuri - ...

    Fantastic and genuinely unique.
An excellent, unusually deep anime that details a human society struggling with it's own evolution, touching on questions on how far is it okay to go to preserve a society and a people's safety, sexual exploration, and exploitation of other cultures. It goes through two or three major changes in tone throughout it's duration, usually as it's protagonists age. It even pulls the unusual trick of ...

You will love it! I guarantee
It isn't often that an anime captivates me as much as this one has. I'm sick of animes that have no background and are rather flat in terms of plot development. It was amazing to see the amount of detail that went into this show and I absolutely love it. It's rather tragic though, but that's what kept me interested.

My Desire for a Thoughtful Anime has been met.
Once I start watching a series, I make it a point to finish every episode. This can often be difficult when the ending is predictable, or the creator thinks the viewer is so dumb that they have to spell out every little action.

Shin Sekai Yori does the opposite. It beats you over the head for a few episodes with information. Do not be dissuaded from this. Shin Sekai Yori does a great job ...

    Absolutely Stunning Show
While it can be rather slow at times, especially in the beginning, this is one of the best-written shows I have ever seen. Everything ties together, and despite the emotional moments you have felt throughout the series, it feels realistic and complete. The finale tied everything together extremely well, and I'm tempted to re-watch it to pick up on the things I missed the first time ...
