  • When you get down to it, not much but talk
Good-looking and with a reasonable premise, this show never really gets anywhere. Main character relationships play out as expected, but without much depth. The phantom books each have to be explained in speeches. Plot points have to be explained in speeches. You're just along for the ride, not really getting involved.

Try "Gosick" for a more-compelling story with similar elements.

  • Great Great Series!!
The Mystic Archives of Dantalian is a very interesting anime I had a great time watching it back in March here on Crunchyroll. I thoroughly enjoyed the theme and the ideas in the series I recommend watching it if you like short but sweet animes......

There is only one reason to not give this 5 stars...
I enjoyed this refreshing anime from the very first episode. The only reason to not give it 5 stars is that it seems to have "concluded" in nothing by the last episode. It is a extremely non-serialized show, with each episode being almost entirely self-contained (There are a few exceptions).

If you want a good supernatural mystery/suspense, then this is it.

Enjoyable and I love it, but lacking.
I loved this anime, it's actually my favorite. What made me sad was all the build up and the budget was obviously low seeing as they never did anything with the random characters they would have show up and intend to make a main antagonist or another protagonist. Overall I feel they underdeveloped it and when it ended I couldn't help but feel like there was so much they didn't pick up on and grow, ...

    A Powerful and Unique anime
I happened upon this anime just recently while searching for something new and was quite pleased. As many other reviews have stated, the art, music, atmosphere, and character are all superb. The episodes are all one offs mostly, with very little tying them together aside from the first and last few episodes. The intro and outro are very beautiful. I need to go back and check the singers ...

    Cool anime, abrupt end
This anime seemed to have potential, but eventually the episodes didn't really have a flow and appeared to be mostly random; could watch random episodes and it wouldn't matter. This has a feel of GoSick

    I have mixed feelings
I found that the stories really didn't follow a set plot, like Mushi-shi, and were specifically linked to the individual phantom books wreaking havoc in each episode. I felt that there were some loose ends that were never tied up, and yet, I ended up enjoying the last episode immensely.

    Nice setting, but poor storyline
The protagonist Huey, is a pilot from WW1. His grandfather has just passed away and Huey inherited a big house. The house contains a great number of books and our other protagonist Dalian. She appears to be some kind of living library and contains the so called Phantom books. The anime revolves around these myserious books which seems to appear from time to time and often with destruction and ...

    Great concept, rough ending.
I really loved this anime; the art was excellent and the story flowed really well and wasn't overly redundant as some shows like this are. However as it reached its conclusion they introduced majorly important characters and relationships that never were properly addressed or concluded. There should have been a second season just based on how everything was "tied up".
