    Breath taking and Brilliant
Genius director. He brings you in with a novel approach to telling his story--his style is award-winning. Exhilaration was the feeling given--time after time, you'll watch it with eager: timeless from beginning to end; a must-see anime for anyone.

Amazing Anime Movie from Shinkai Makoto
Everyone, who knows Shinkai Makoto's work, will also love The Place Promised in Our Early Days (also known as Kumo no Mukou Yakusoku no Basho). It's his first anime movie and was a huge success.

Story: In a fiction parallel world, Japan was divided after the second world war. Hiroki, Takuya and Sayuri saw a huge tower on the other side. They were attracted by the tower, so ...

    Magnificent and Breathtaking!
This has been my absolute all-time favorite movie from the first time I watched it over a year ago. Again, Makoto Shinkai proves to the animated world that he has an enormous amount of talent and skill.

The Place Promised In Our Early Days is filled with such beautiful allusions and deeper meanings, I wish I could completely understand them all individually. This film has brought me to dream, ...

Of characters rather than story, does this masterpiece follow
I can not express how I feel after having this experience of viewing this movie. There is no words to describe how incredibly well the story was told, and how far it had moved me. The first things that come to mind are not the problem at hand of the "Tower", nor is it the struggles between the two boys, but rather the connection and love that Hiroka and and Sayuri feel that goes beyond even what ...

One of the most original works that I've seen in a long time!
From CoMix Wave Films and director Makoto Shinkai comes one of the most original story's that I've ever seen in an anime combined with beautiful artwork and breathtaking animation. The Place Promised in our Early days marks Shinkai's first feature length film! It's not as touching as 5 Centimeters Per Second, but it is a beautiful and heartwarming film! I highly recommend it!

    雲のむこう、約束の場所 : Beyond The Cloud
Makoto Shinkai, the name of famous animator among Anime fans, the name of event that held once a year, where all fans celebrate the day of him as Global Shinkai Day. His masterpiece have won several awards and bunch of people waiting for his next artwork. Although Makoto-sensei only release one tittle per two years, but it's worth to watching. A few name of his work: Five centimeters ...

  • Well animated, emotional, atmospheric piece.
Beautiful colours and simple, relatable, realistic characters really make this a must-see. The story is romantic and nostalgic, and the atmosphere is astoundingly beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed this title, even friends that don't like anime in general enjoyed viewing this one.

  • Why can't I just rate 5 stars and be done with it?
I don't have words for how good this anime is. It's just good and I loved it. I liked how it was science fiction-y and the animation was nice. The story was good and full of drama but not the kind of drama that makes something hard to watch. The good drama that makes you want to watch it more.

  • A story that doesn't overtell itself
My only problem with this whole thing is how it has been cut into 4 parts. This, however, is no reflection on the movie, which managed to have both a very straight forward storyline while existing in a complex frame. A common problem I have with anime is the writers need to over explain everything in the universe. This movie brushed over the science and simply focused on the story. I love a ...

  • Very Nicely Done!!!!
This is not a Ghibli film, but it may seem like one to those who don't know the person that directed it. The colors are vibrant, the "romance" - if you can call it that - is sweet, and the characters are nice. It doesn't take the plot too fast, but may seem to drag once in a while. Overall, this was a satisfying film with a fantasy twist and a good lesson.
