In this anime you are placed in a realistic future where androids serve humans and have a three rule system similar to iRobot. You have a teenage boy named Rikou as the main character. He discovers his android is secretly going to a cafe where the only rule is "no discrimination between humans and robots". Each episode is usually around 15 minutes long and shows the various characters, both human and robot, interacting together. Each episode has a twist which leaves you surprised.

I really enjoyed this anime, where it seemed I was always getting surprised. It left me sympathizing for almost everyone, robot and human. I would have loved more episodes, and learning more about what happened to everyone after the close of the anime. I highly recommend everyone giving it a go, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

If you enjoy anime, sci-fi, Asimov, philosophy, cog sci, or even if you hate anime but know who Dennett, Chalmers, or Searle are - you'll spend your time wisely by watching this through.

Elevates anime to a new level. I watch everything Yasuhiro Yohshiura puts out now.

An absolute joy and pleasure to watch. breathtakingly illustrated and wonderful characters. Fantastic soundtrack and voice acting too.

Time of Eve is a real step forward for anime. The bar has been risen!

I eagerly await (and hope :)) for more episodes!

If I wasn't so tired after watching the whole series in one go I would probably be more detailed in my review. But right now I just want more of the show! Onegaishimasu! 5 stars!

Deeply stirring, questions the nature of our humanity.

A fantastic animated thesis proposing the future of a dwindling humanity; likely an attempt to question what will happen in a Japan with half its population and a reliance on machines to prop up society. The older generation is absent, the youngest generation is technically savvy, and the lines between human and robot begin to blur for them. If the one who raised you was a robot, could you stand idly while others claimed she was slandered as a threat to humanity?

Many questions, many more beautiful than the possible answers. Watch this and wonder.

Isaac Asimov would watch it

I think that this show is fantastic, an interesting look into the ideas of A.I. And the style is oddly reminiscent to Isaac Asimov's works, but more over it really makes you invested in the people in the story. I do regret that this was so short, I think that there is so much left unfinished that its depressing, but at least it ended on a high note. Please watch if you have some time to kill, I'm ...

Wish there were more like this one...

Anime has some real gems, and this is one of them. Unfortunately, they, like so many other things of value, are few and far between. I guess that's why those gems are so special.

This one has all the subtleties that I love about Japanese cinema, and I wish more of these types of stories would be created. There are sad and profound moments in here, but you aren't bashed over the head by them ...

There are sad and profound moments in here, but you aren't bashed over the head by them with contrived drama. Genuine care for the characters can be cultivated with this type of storytelling, and I hope other anime screenplay writers get the hint.

Look no further for a thoughtful and thought provoking short story that is subtle and powerful, humorous and dramatic, all at the same time.

Similar to "A.I Artificil Intelligence" (2001) or "I Robot" (2004)

If you have seen those movie, this anime will not stir your mind! I don't find it has an innovation or something never seen before. On top of that, I didn't feltl anything while watching it, but the movies made me cry! Anyway, if you enjoyed A.I. who might enjoy this.. If you've watch this anime without seeing the movie... Maybe you should rent it, first thing tomorrow!

I was pleasantly surprised by this anime. It's a serious work of art that makes you think, and it's heartwarming, philosophical and intelligent as well. The episodes are short, only 15 minutes long, except for the last episode, which is 30, but the pacing is so good that a lot of plot gets told even in the small amount of time each episode lasts.

The characters are amazing, the artwork is great, and the only problem I have with this anime is that I want more episodes. This movie compilation of this series, according to the official site ranked as the #3 sale in Itunes Japan in 2011, and there is a GOOD reason why. I highly recommend giving this anime a try. Rarely have I ever seen any TV or Movie series in any genre be so soulful.

Also, this anime is free of things like blood and violence and over the top sexuality. It's safe for kids to watch, although I doubt they would understand the plot very well, depending on their age.

edit: I just read on wikipedia that this anime won awards as one of the best anime for children. Who would've thought? It's so much more intelligent and less juvenile than a lot of more "adult" themed anime.
