In my own little Muv-Luv Total Eclispe update Ive reached episode 9 now and it's been a bit up and down really.
After the 1st two episodes which is more than a prologe than anything else, the next couple of episodes we meet the rest of the main cast which although meets most anime arch-types (short tomboy tsundere anyone?) seem to be alright.
The action in these episodes are a tiny bit lax, ...

The action in these episodes are a tiny bit lax, fair enough it's a training arc but a few of fights are decent enough.
Talking of the training arc, the plot of thess episodes is R&D into the next generation of mechs to fight the Aliens. Unfortunaly I noticed a reacuring pattern emerging in these episodes.
Yuuya (one of the main charcters and test pilot) : Ive only ever piloted American TSFs and Japanese TSFs handle completly diferently and Im struggling to adjust.
Yui (the other main character and team leader): I picked you because your half Japanese and therefore should easily pilot any Japanese TSFs without training or skill because your Japanese. I'm highly dispointed in as a Japanese person due to you struggling to transfer between complely different TSFs. You should be ashamed to be Japanese.
Yuuya: I NOT JAPANESE AND IM AMERICAN- Anyway (lists off valid Improvement to TSF)
Yui- The Japanese TSF are perfect in everyway (failing to note that Japan fall in like a day). It's your fault for being terrible not acting like a Japanese pilot.
Yuuya- I HATE JAPAN!!!!!!
And it's pretty much like that for a couple of episodes. But more angsnt. And it's resloved by a TSF samurai fight between Yui and Yuuya of courzd as Yuuya becomes "one with his TSF" as only Japanese people can.
Trust ms it can get a bit racial at times.
But anyway one of the key selling points of Total Eclispe is it's Fanservice. Althought it only twice on average per episode it still fill cheap as all fanservice does, but it is really summed up in two parts; The Scarlet Twins and episodes 5-7 (where Below image is from)
The Scarlets Twins, a pair of Russian, maybe physpic pilots are pretty kick ass in my honest opinion but they are the attention of so much unnesscary fanservice. Sure skintight uniform and DOA boob phyics plague all the woman of Total Eclispe unfortuanly, but it just feels highlighted in there case. The older sister Crysaka althought a cold character loves her younger sister Inia (your lolicon character) who is purely innocent in matters but the wost part is the implyed...well not incest but you get my drift that's showncase in a drawn birth scence. It is also implied that Crysaka gets aroused by combat but that's a different matter.
Episodes 5-6 (I think?) is one of those beach episodes that's just a excuse for fan service which totally happens. In episode 6 Yui, Crysaka and Yuuya get trapped on cliche of a desserted island where drama happens blah but at least it develops the characters.
But it's the end of episode 6 that really disgusts me.
Commander: Although I sent you guys out on a boat in a middle storm that nearly killed you, I will punish Yui and Crysaka by making wear skimpy bikini in front of all the men, oh and get your lolicon sister to dress up as well, Yuuya as a man get to watch !
It just totaly undermines the female characters in such a horrid way.
Well at least after the next arc will be the team going to Russia to fight on the frontlines so things should pick up again.
