  • Not Worth Your Time!
I enjoy romance stories as much as the next person, but the story is flat and boring. You are not able to form an attachment to any of the characters, therefore you feel nothing. There isn't even humor to make up for it. Bland and dull. Not worth your time

  • Have Your Tissue Box Ready - Emotions Will Run High!
Do you like Romeo and Juliet? How about seeing true love being ripped asunder by class separation, familial duty, work and/or death? How about having your heart ripped out in the most beautifully tragic ways? If so, then this, you dear romantic masochist, is for you! Seriously though, this anime is gorgeous in so many ways and I highly recommend it for anyone who likes ...

An Anime Romance that Actually Happened
This show is mainly about forbidden love in Heian era Japan.
It is meant for romantics that can appreciate poetry and art. The art style in this anime is unique and fitting.
It showcases the roles of men and women in court as well as the importance of art and literature in their culture. This show is actually pretty historically accurate which makes the nerd in me happy! This show just really ...

An awesome romance anime series I now love
Here is another awesome anime series, I now love. With romance and a slice of comedy, this series "Uta Koi" is based a historical manga written and illustrated by Kei Sugita; which in turn is an interpretation of romantic poems from a poem anthology know as "Ogura Hyakunin Isshu." You know, I really hate Saadakira. I didn't understand why such a brutal brat could hate a girl like ...

    Something different and unexpected
Very interesting and educational as well...I loved the idea of having different ways of showcasing the stories behind each poem - from a news flash to a tv show interview. It gave me a glimpse into Japanese history of poetry. It also sort of gave me a better appreciation of the anime Shihara-Furu. Love it!

This was different from what I am used to
It took a while to get hooked into the series, there were a few filler moments in there as well, but for the most part I surprisingly liked it. I can't stand the opening music though. v.v I did like how it pertained to love and that the characters correlated with each other throughout the episodes. Once you make yourself watch the first two episodes, you may find yourself hooked to finish the rest.

A Flower Bud Hidden in a Sea of Tall Grass
I read reviews that said this show had a correlation to the Chihayafuru series. So what could it hurt to watch it?
After watching this series, I'd say that this is a truly inspirational and great imaginative take on historical figures who influenced the culture, art, and literature of Japan in the past.
I find the true to life stories to be the real clincher for this series that sets it apart ...

    Poetry at its finest!
At first glance I was not interested at all in Utakoi but it popped up under romance so I put it in my queue and thought I would give it a chance. Plus it was about the hundred poets and that was in Chihiya Furu which I enjoyed thoroughly so I gave this series a try. I was so very glad that I did, it has a beautiful style of animation and wonderful music, and the stories are so beautifully tragic ...

    Utakoi- through my eyes
Quality- I love the animation style in which it is drawn. I have always been told a heavy outline ruins the realistic properties of art but it is used very well in this anime.

    4.5/5

Sound- Great voice actors and excellent use of music I greatly enjoyed the opening theme.

    5/5

Story- Each story through out the 13 episodes tie into one another beautifully and never counterdict each other. ...
