The comic books audience was from young to mature, while the anime series probably just targets the young audience. This explains the changes of Laureline. The comic book Laureline has had some of her finest moments, when she turns into a very beautiful, sexy lady to show male creatures are kind of stupid, compared to females, violent and controlled by hormones and uses their weaknesses to solve problems like an adult does not like these child heads.
In the anime series this is somewhat less obvious but still there, for example when she manages to let Valerian do the household chores, because he did not expect that she was able to park the flying saucer well and lost a bet.
So see this series and by all means try to get the comic books!
