Fine Totally Fine
Winner of the Audience Award at the New York Asian Film Festival, Fine, Totally Fine is a dramedy about two listless friends – Teruo is perpetually stuck in arrested development, and still fantasizes about building the world’s scariest haunted house even though he’s on the verge of turning 30; while his uber-sensitive childhood friend, Hisanobu, is stuck in a rut living the vanilla life of Japanese salaryman.
Things change a bit when Akari, a doe-eyed, clumsy nerdette, moves in to work at Teruo’s family-owned bookstore. Immediately smitten, Teruo steps out of his comfort box to impress the girl, mostly in hilariously awkward fashion. Little does he know that he is also competing with Hisanobu for her affection. Somewhere along the way, their embarrassing effort to open up to each other morphs into a poignant journey of self-discovery.
