White Album

it can be said that White Album is the true depiction of what a harem suppose to be. A real plot, no ecchi scenes, and everyday girls as heroins. No androids, no mythical creatures, just reality. Nothing more said is enjoyable.

Sorry but this is about it. Good art, a genius story, beautiful songs and great voice actresses. Though its a serius harem, so if you want comedy you are stepping through the wrong department office. Any way what ruins most harems is the use of comedy, because harems are suppose to be about the drama. In the end great show but not for every one. Why? Its a totally serious show. and its not mainstream. so if your willing, take the challenge. After all masterpieces aren't mainstreams they are original .

I have watched all 26 episodes and have very few complaints. The storyline, voice acting and music production provide a very careful stage, one in which you begin to care and wonder how it is going to end. The conditions and atmosphere are believable and there is both a male and female aspect intermixed; There is very little plastic or cut-out characterizations to complain about.

White Album has a number of elements - harem, drama, idol, romance and psychological - Combined in a very entertaining anime.

One of the annoying aspects I realized was my problem it turns out. No cell phones, well DUH!, the story line is set in the late 1980's and portable phone technology at the time was embryonic, at best. The clue that occurred to make me realize this were the answering machines that are the size of lap top computers today (and you didn't notice PC's or laptops either, another clue).

One item that tends to dominate harem anime is that the central male character is aloof and virtuous in all the attention he's getting from all the aggressive ladies in his life. Well, White Album, didn't go there and it is for once refreshing that it portrays male mentality and sensibility in its proper light - How many harem animes have you watched where you wonder the how central male character could resist all that temptation and attention? Well, this anime doesn't make that mistake, it entertains what would happen in real life and deals realistically with one very key fact - Young males have needs too... just as do young women. The central male character sought comfort where he could find it and found it in the women in his life. He didn't go looking for it, it found him and he responded. There were females in his life that he didn't sleep with, and had he even when invited, it would have been inappropriate. He made mistakes given certain circumstances, like we all do, but he didn't make certain mistakes, like we all shouldn't.

Overall, a well done anime and the music production was excellent and supported that aspect of the story arc very well.

This Anime is based on a 1998 visual novel so even though it was released 2008-2009 there are a few things that can be annoyingly dated. ie: no cellphones or texting.

Nevertheless, if you like showbiz anime that is more realistic in drama, it might really appeal.

I also enjoyed the beautiful watercolor images and the singing especially in the later episodes is great. It seems to be a notch above many other anime in terms of the production quality.

It starts slow and there are a few annoying episodes, but the more you think about it the more it seems like a real life drama (at least if you compare it with ones like Skip Beat). Even the fact the protagonist had so many women interested in him in the end does make sense.

My first (accidental) foray into harem anime, White Album kept me watching until the 26th episode, but I'm still not entirely sure why.

The plot at first seems like it might be complex but ultimately is about a string of relationships that the main character Touya Fuji has with a variety of women in his life whom he calls his 'goddesses'. The backdrop being that his childhood sweetheart is an upcoming pop idol and their relationship becomes strained and awkward.

The characterisation of Touya is fairly weak, to be honest, but the women I found all to be interesting in their differences. Plenty of drama as Touya drifts from one fling to the next without almost no real motivation until all is revealed in a pretty anticlimactic last episode. I also found some of the script choices unrealistic and.. just a bit odd to be honest, and not in the good way.

All in all, White Album was easy to watch. Mostly inoffensive in content but incredibly easy on the eyes thanks to some really pretty animation, White Album doesn't quite get the heart racing or the blood pumping, but it did make me laugh a bit and I enjoyed the journey I was taken on.

for the more common sense people reading as this is the first 26ep that I've watched online, I firstly found the involved storyline quite complex to remeber ,the further that i got into the series. There are many characters that you have to remember as the main characters
i.e the 2 pop idols, producer with daughter,president of label, students from a university where it revolves around of course!... you got the main idea

I found that I was haveing to rewatch a couple of ep as watching to understand the story lol at some times.

the series is watchable immediatly with it introuducing a student as the main link to the off cast members in the show who works as a paid tutor from the university.

I feel that this series would be brilliant if it was available if dubbed in english and other languages.. as you would feel the drama more.

I don't feel like this anime really stood out to me. There were some impressions made in the first episode I didn't feel it lived up to. I was able to sit through the first 3 episodes, but after that I promptly lost interest. It feels more like something I can watch when I have a full pack of cigarettes and a lot of time to kill while waiting for episodes of other animes to come out, or before I go to work. Don't get me wrong, it isnt a BAD anime at all. But I don't feel like it stands out. Yet there are some interesting things that come with this anime.

For one, as the first episode opens there you notice there is a great transition of scenes and ideals, that is done masterfully. It attracted my attention near instantly. And the outlining of each character is done very well. As the main character wakes up from a dream, I noticed that the animation was done very well. The environment is painted thoroughly and with accurate light usage and in a way thats very tasteful. It's very realistic. There are several points where the characters are having a converation (somewhat often) and they'll have a thought, and it subtly shows up, as a text (subtitled to the respected language if not watched in japanese). I loved that implimentation, it was something I had never seen done in an anime before and I respect that in this anime. It definately is a good reason to look into it. The things that set this anime apart are its redeeming qualities, but they arent enough to make this anime worth putting things to the side to watch.

On the other hand there are some subtle problems I have with this anime. As far as Crunchyroll goes... theyre missing a large chunk of the episodes (3-14 I believe) which in ANY anime are key episodes for character development and storyline progression. But that doesnt change my opinion of the anime, because these episodes are easily found with a simple search for them a search engine. My issues concerning this anime are as follows. The characters are pretty well defined, but the plot of the anime really isnt. It seems like its more hinted at in a certain direction. it's easy to understand, but feels hard to follow. Because it comes off as going in depth, but leaving the wrong things out of the equation. All of the characters carry the same subtlety in their personality, but all of maybe 2. Even those 2 characters I don't feel are portrayed appropriately to emphasize their strength. It seems as if even the main characters are just side characters. The coloring is done very well, and as I said earlier; its very realistic. But when watching this anime, because of its lack of visual appeal outside of its integrity; It gets to be a bit much to watch after a little while. To be blunt... it gets boring. I don't appreciate how abruptly characters are introduced and dropped without any development, their developments are sort of implied rather than outlined. And the awkwardness of many of the conversations is offputting.

This isnt a bad anime at all, but its not a great one. I have to give it a 3.5 just to put it over for the sake of its color, and the fact that it could potentially be a really good anime. It has a lot of potential, but I dont see it living up to it. It's visually appealing by means of realism, and the music is done quite well. But the characters are too bland, and the coloring makes it seem to drag on for too long. Yet the individual features such as current thought display, and transitions such as a character suddenly being displayed in action as a still frame portrait, I feel make this anime worth looking into, but not worth putting off a good episode of another anime to watch.

If you want something that is flashy and cool dont bother coming here, if you want something that can be dramatic and involving, this may be for you.

Having only seen the first episode of the series when it was released earlier this year, I can't say that I wasn't intrigued by the premise of the show. As a huge fan of period films, television, and anime, this was a huge winner in my heart. I was born in 1988, so, the decades before my birth intrigued me. Needless to say, if you are a fan of such entertainment, you will find this show very refreshing. Check it out, as Crunchyroll is now getting the first season on the website, so, you won't miss a thing.

Drama, most people these days don't know the meaning of it. When i click the tag Drama, it just show lots of animation that doesn't even comes close. A sudden over feeling of emotion just take over as an event that occured, now a days anime is nothing more than Comedy, prolong event, and pride less work of art. This contain no Comedy, Action, S-F, or any other piece of stuff that Majority of the Otaku population would love to see.

AS for the story it moves around, never stuck at one problem for a long period of time nor does it go around in circling and does something that doesn't even bother with the story. Although the anime may be short, 13 episode, it is worth wile to say up all night to watch it completely or even keeps you awake all night. Although their are some minor set back that could use some fixing, but..... plans never go where they suppose to. Short and Simple, it gets the job done.


I really don't recommend for people that have no taste of style of realistic and just go for random cycle of comedy. It's a bit difficult for me to explain it in detail so i'll leave it like this.
