Yokuwakaru Gendai Maho

I didnt like the main character koyomi she is utterly useless yeah the water basin thing was funny at first but got old fast so did her tripping every time she ran anywhere and crying ugh i wish she was useful to the other characters at least idk im just not happy with it overall. I hated how the story didnt match the first episode until after a few in where it catches you up and just too many moments of frustration i pushed myself to finish this cause i dont like leaving this unfinished. So uhhh i guess im just not into it i know i a lot of ppl liked it but for me i didnt.

Yokuwakaru Gendai Maho is one of those series that makes you stop and go, "Hmm I never thought about that before..." At first, it seems like your traditional magical-girl fare: a young female finds a piece of paper advertising a magic school that she's never heard of before, but somehow feels drawn to because the book that she finds it in, is supposedly written in a magical language that only those who can use magic can read. She could read it, so she decided to go out to this school to check it out.

Oh, and then there's the guy who is using a magic that her ancestors developed to try to kill her.

I know, right, seems hella complicated and droll. It really isn't. Gendai Maho is one of the better anime series I've seen lately, in no small part due to its unique take on magic. The series treats magic as the powering force behind our technological devices, in addition to being the regular magic that you would think of (e.g. Harry Potter or Mahou Sensei Negima!), and the "DNA" that makes up the magic of the world is referred to as the Code. If one can read and manipulate the Code, they can perform magic. Now when was the last time you saw *that* in a magical-girl series?

I won't go into too many plot spoilers, but I will say that it doesn't start out slow and work its way up, like many series do. No, this one throws you into the action from the very beginning, and doesn't let up at all.

Overall, I would highly recommend this series. Even if you're not a magical-girl fan, per se, but just someone looking for a break from all the generic anime being pumped out nowadays, check Gendai Maho out. It's simply... magical.

I Just loved everything about it!!!

Overall: 5 star- It was an awesome series, especially by using computer codes to do magic! I loved the characters, and the episodes were a little confusing, i got over it. The one thing I've learned is.. use magic wisely, and don't hurt your friends. Also, you should watch out for wash basins coming out of thin air suddenly! Watch it and you won't be disappointed trust me!

Storyline: 5 star- Bascially, its about this girl named Koyomi Morishita and she's a mage-in-training but she's also a clutz by always falling down though but she is awesome, plus she can summon wash basins out of nowhere! She also gets help from her friends, and tries to improve her magic. Normally, when people summon magic, they either chant things from their mouth(classic magic) or draw magic circles. But in this series, they use C++ programming (computer program language) in order to use magic (which is also called modern day magic). At first the plotline can get pretty confusing, but they will start making sense in later episodes. Later in the series, you learn that not everything is as it seems, but everything turned out ok near the end.

Music: 5 star- As for the music it was pretty amazing listening to both the opening theme and the closing theme. and also the rest were pretty awesome aswell!! ^__^

Characters: 5 starbecause - The characters here are very interesting, and they were pretty awesome. but i love the whole cast. All the voice actors/actresses did a awesome and a great job doing their part. My favorite character is Yumiko Christina Ichinose because she's pretty, smart,has nice eyes and hair, she wear nice and cute clothes and she's one of the few mages that can do classic magic.

Animation: 5 star because - As for the animation, it is simply brillant, bright, pretty, awesome, cool , excellent and the studio did an tremendous job of making it. It's also worth looking at the special effects and the CGI.

This was like different but in good way.. it got me excited... it made me imagine i was in this anime... i wish there a second season! <.< so badly !! :P

My review title says it all. Twelve episodes weren't enough for this anime. The premise is interesting. I especially like the idea of new school magic using computers and code as opposed to uttering spells. The voice acting is solid as is the animation. There just needed to be more for me to feel satisfied. They just seemed to scratch the surface of the characters. I don't know if this is a manga, but my guess is that the anime was done to get people to read the it. If I were a manga reader, I'd definitely look for it.

Classical magic is so Y2K! So move aside, here comes "comprehensible modern magic" for the new millennium. There're action, comedy, a temporal mystery, and a lovable cast consisting of the ditz (Koyomi), the cool chick (Misa), the loli and the boing (yes Yumiko pulls double duty on this one -- now that's what I called a dedicated MOE actress!)
